Oil change intervals

Featured Replies

How often does the engine oil and filter need changing on a 67 reg superb estate 150bhp ? 114000 miles

It depends if it’s on variable or fixed servicing but the rough figures are;

fixed - 1 year / 10,000miles

variable - when the car tells you/2 years/20,000 miles

@tootwill be along very soon to give you the specifics 😜

^^^ Nail on the head.

Fixed regime or Variable.

Engine oil for the TDI is Long Life regardless of which.  VW 504 00 / 507 00

?

What is it a 150 PS 1.4 TSI, or a 150 PS TDI, and how many miles a day / week or even a year will it be doing now.

As its been used for a taxi, covering around 500 / 700 miles per week........what would you recommend? I have just had gearbox and engine oil and filters changed so I know where I am. I was going to come to you and have a reverse cam fitted as well ( for the wife's request) but I am managing fine without one so didn't bother.

Diesel

Are you doing it your self or your mechanic / servicing person?

I would go 15,000 miles maybe, but that is all about is it a stop / start diesel taxi, or engine running through the hours working.

500-700 miles a week, and the oil & filter change will be every 6 months or so..

The DPF might be more of an issue than Engine Oil.

Maybe some Taxi driver or mechanic that does taxis will be along.

For long life oil I would recommend you don't give the car the beans until up to temperature (applies to anyone really) and don't let the car idle much at all.  You will save oil life and diesel if you follow that.

Thanks for the heads up guys.....when I work I am pretty constant moving about and don't really sit idling for long unless its really cold ( I go home if it's quiet). I'm a pretty steady driver as I want my car to last and I want to try and keep all oils and fluids up to to date the best I can as it's in my own interest to look after my car.

On the subject of driving! I put it in eco mode and leave it that all day, but I was reading somewhere on this site that driving in eco is bad !!!! Is this true?

I am really enjoying driving my skoda..... it still surprises me on how good it is to drive and am glad I didn;t get a over priced a6 avant.

P.S. I don't use stop start as it really ****es me off.

I was not talking Stop / Start when driving.

More, Stopping the engine when parked up, you driving or a driver.

As in, are you sitting idling keeping warm and keeping the car warm?    500-700 miles a week and hours of the engine running more than that mileage type thing.

The DPF does not like that.

How much is it to have the DPF done?

Maybe nothing if no need to.

If no issues, then no issue.

?

How long have you had the car?

@varooomwill likely know the scores on the doors.

Average part price is about £1,600 due to the nice rare Earth metals.

Add labour on top, probably about £2,000 give or take.

Hopefully someone else can confirm that rough guesstimate.

They should live beyond 150,000 miles mind you, and need checking every 10,000 miles after for lifespan left.  There is a VAG DPF app you can get for you phone I believe to monitor this.

If I stop I switch the car off if I am waiting usually.

One tip I can share would be to purchase VCDS Hex V2, it will save you several expensive trips to dealer/mechanic and you can code out the seatbelt warning chime (as most taxi drivers are exempt whilst carrying passengers)

I guess I have been used to very low maintenance costs in the past having driven a TX1 (W REG) for the past 15 years. I have owned the skoda for 6 months now.

So what are the warning signs that the DPF gives when its on its way out?

Fans running a lot more after you switch off, and the frequency at which the regens occur get closer and closer (500 miles, 400 miles... down and down until almost permanent)

Best purchase would be a VCDS as mentioned, forget about a little app on your phone.
