My First Skoda

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm located in South West England not far from Bristol.

Just registered on this forum following purchase of a nearly new 2.0 Petrol 4 x4 Karoq. It's my first foray into the world of VAG having mostly owned (and loved) Saabs, the last one having lasted me for 11 years and 88k miles with only 2 non-service repairs since purchase at 35 miles.

The Skoda was a used dealer purchase with 197 miles run. Wonder if it'll be as reliable?

I do hope so as I’m waiting on delivery of my first Škoda, also a Karoq (4x2)!

Always had a soft spot for Saab’s after spending many miles in the back of a 96 as a kid.

Welcome to the forum.

Thank you for the welcome.

I guess if you are waitng for delivery then you will be getting a brand new face-lifted version. Will be interesting to hear how you get on with all the improvements on the latest version.

I think mine is one of those which was sent down the line to use up as much as possible that would not be required going forward. It was first registered in March 22 to a Skoda dealer and then transported to my local dealer where I picked it up 'used' with only 197 miles run. It seems to have more features than I was expecting but does not have all the external facelifted features. Whilst the reg number appears correctly against the VIN on the main Skoda data base, one has to be very careful if fitting accessories as some part numbers are not 100% accurate on dealer databases. I ended up sending photos of mine to a dealer so he could ensure he sent me the correct mud flaps for instance!

I'm also finding most of the well-known web-based consumables / parts suppliers are not showing the correct engine oil spec. I can only assume there must have been a recent change by Skoda. The selling dealer and the plate under the bonnet both specify SAE 0W20 (VW 508 / 509) which seems to upset a number of web shops.

Apart from propensity for road noise (which I hope will reduce as the tyres wear-in), both my wife and I are very pleased with ours. Hope you will be too.

We never intended to buy new but these things tend to escalate  😂

As it turned out for us the price differential between new and something 12-18 months old swung us towards a new one, I expect this will start to change soon given how crazy used car prices have been for a while. We were originally going for a pre-facelift model (an SEL with options) as it had more toys on than the one we’ve ordered.

The subject of oil in the VW/VAG world does seem to be a somewhat over complicated affair.

I have just registered and also live near Bristol. I just hope I do'nt bump into you!

I now have a 4 year old Karoq, 1,5 TSi , having had, and been happy with, a VX Insignia - it was diesel and not ULEZ compliant so would cost £9 each time I went into Bristol, plus after 6 years of Insignia's I was ready for a change. Happy in general with the KAroq, my biggest gripe is when the Traffic Alert comes on it obscures the Sat Nav screen.

Happy Motoring....

Ah, the dreaded Bristol ULEZ!

I'm well outside the zone and very glad even though my 11 year old Saab (and even older MGTF) were both Ok. Both petrol of course.

Fortunately I'm old enough (just!) for a bus pass so I haven't driven into the zone yet. I'm told that, together with Birmingham, it's the strictest in the Country.

This nearly happened to us - until SWMBO found out the delivery lead time was 13 weeks!

That was almost a deal breaker for us too as another local dealer had one in stock, although not in our first choice of colour, but given the deal we got from the supplying dealer we couldn’t really turn it down, plus luckily we’re in a position where we can wait. (Even though I’m completely impatient and literally counting down the days 😂)
