Upgrade to android auto/apps

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. Just bought a new Octavia which is great apart from the older smaller screen stereo. The sound from it is superb it's the Amundsen nav system. Previously I had android auto with apps and just want that again with the bigger screen. The updated Octavia has the touch buttons and that would be ideal. Still want to use car menus on the screen and want to keep it as standard as possible. Been to a couple of places up here and they can't do it. Any advice would be fantastic. Cheers

Been discussed loads.  Quite recently too.  Have a trawl through the forums and come back with any questions.

Cheers mate. Just looking for someone who knows these setups to do it. Finding someone in the know up here seems pretty difficult.

Ask @pab567he can do it for you

It might be an idea to turn on the radio and take a picture of your software train.  Hold down your Menu/Setup button for about 10 seconds to enter the engineering menu and locate Software Train information.

There exists two choices to enable functions, dealer and pay for activation code, or you can use another process (wink wink!) to activate for free.  You do however need VCDS or similar to enable Developer menu.

Hey mate. Thanks. Apparently as it's not got smartlink it's not possible to do. Will get that anyway. Cheers

So a MIB1, and there's an update to 0490 available.  Hopefully Pab567 will pop along shortly with advice on what you can do (swapping parts maybe)

Thanks for your help mate. Clueless with this but ideally would want the newer screen with android auto built in on 17 onwards Octavia's. Mine is admundsen and not sure if that's better head unit than others or if it's just the extra speakers that makes it sound really good.

I previously had an Amundsen mib1, no Android auto or mirror link on this. Swapping IS the only way.

Pab sent me a mib2 and 8 inch that works well

Hi Nicky. Yeh I am resigned to getting one. I like the look of the bigger screen but don't want to lower the standard of the sound and want to keep it as standard as possible with menus etc. Any info is great. Know I'm going to have to spend cash on it but cars worth it. Cheers man

The sound is as good if not better Than the mib1 and it can now Play FLAC files.

Android auto works good but can hang on heavy messenging... Nothing bad but it happens.

Phone calls are as good.

You will loose the CD player.

You will loose traffic info (if you ever used it) but you will most likely use your phone on Android auto so no big deal

One thing that is not bad is that if the dab looses connection, it will automatically switch to the equivalent FM station if it exists.

If not in android Auto, the unit reads sms messages.

Also you will have the Skoda connect option but you will not be able to use it as the Vin number of your car won't match the database. But again, you don't need it.

Last thing, the option to manage the foot well lights is gone, it is now on when the doors are open and off when ignition is on. As far as I am concerned, I Always had them off with ignition so again, no big deal.

Overall it is worth it and the screen is a go to. It changes the car.

Sound should be similar. If getting a kit ready to fit from the likes of pab567 (legend btw) you'll be looking at a few hundred pushing £1k depending on the features you want. Worth it in my opinion as you make good use of your phone and the screen will be bigger and better looking. If you are thinking of virtual dash down the line then expect to pay more.

Is that the going rate for a mib2 8inch mate? Could I source any one from a newer Skoda in a car breakers place and get someone to fit it?

It's been a while but when I got mine I paid £200 for the unit + £100 for the screen (most basic one that was damaged) + £80 for component protection + £200nfor pab567 to code it. At the time this was probably the cheapest mostly because of the screen I used. I'd expect to pay £6-700 minimum for mib2.

FYI none of the parts you have apart from cabling are mib2 compatible. You'll need a glovebox unit and screen. You may also need a usb socket but mine was similar age to yours and didn't need one for android. Didn't work on iPhone though.
