Electric window issue - strange!

Featured Replies

Hi folks, first post here. I'm in the process of preparing my wife's 64 plate Fabia to sell and I'd like to sort the following issue out beforehand. I have done some searching but can't find anyone with the same issue/fix as me.

The passenger side electric window operates normally from the passenger side control. However both driver side and passenger side isn't working from the drivers control.

My wife says she attempted to put the drivers window down during a very cold morning in December (may well have been frozen) and since that point, the drivers side window hasn't moved although when the weather warmed up a bit, I tried the switch again and I could hear a faint clicking. That has now gone as well, it's completely dead. A further mystery to add is that the passenger side was still able to go up and down from the drivers switch up until a couple of weeks ago.

I've checked the rubber casing between the door and pillar, no signs of leaks and all cables intact. I've pulled the drivers side switches out of the arm rest and disconnected/reconnected the wires but no luck. Fuses all good too.

I'm thinking of buying the switch box as the next step and try and eliminate that. Then probably the motor but that doesn't explain why I can't operate the passenger window from the drivers side!

Any help is much appreciated :)

There is a way of 'resetting' the window switches and that is to pull both window switches to the raise position and hold it for about 7 or so seconds. This resets mine when they have a mind of their own.

If that doesn't work try this from the 2014/5 Owner's Manual. -

So, you have pulled the bellows back at both ends (door and A pillar end)  to see / check for broken wires ?

Hi, As UrbanPanzer says, it could be a broken wire, unless the resetting has worked for you.

The wires in the driver door flex a lot and tend to break. Ideally this is a trim of door removal job to get to the wires and also measure continuity to the switches.
