Head and Taillight Retrofit

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Following my successful retrofit of the VC and MIB 2.5 into my Octavia. I’m starting another retrofit.

I’m mainly looking for guidance, retrofitting the BI Xenon with DRL onto my car.

As for the rear, I’ve opted for a cheaper ‘plug and play’ Chinese rear LED lights in the style of the FL rear lights.
These even have dynamic indicators. (To match my mirror lights!)

I’ll be posting images and my thoughts once they arrive.

With my car being an elegance spec, it already comes with the ‘HIGH’ bcm so it already has a chance of supporting the lights + it already has the headlight washers (bonus!)

I already have the passenger side headlight and will need to source the driver side.

I will also need to find out the following;

-Is there a way to find out if my car’s BCM will support xenons via OBD11?

-Will it be possible to retrofit the front + rear levelling sensors required?

-Is anything else required?

(I.e halogen to xenon plug adapter)

I don’t believe anyone has done this before and documented it well. If anyone is able to help It’ll be truly appreciated!

Post an autoscan or equivalent from your car to show how it's equipt.

As for bixenons, you'll probably need:

- either adaptors or new plugs for the headlights

- a headlight range control module

- two level sensors

- wiring between the headlights and headlight range control module

- wiring between the level sensors and headlight range control module

- various coding changes to suit

Random example of a 2015 Octavia autoscan which has headlight levelling: https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/15068/

Plenty of part numbers from a Russia chap who did it: https://www.drive2.ru/l/8803158/

It might be worth grabbing an hours subscription to erwin to check for the correct wiring diagrams,

Hi all,

Just a small update I’d like to share.

The LED rear lights have arrived and have been installed.

Very easy process, just removing T20 screws and installing the new lights into the original halogen connector.

Here’s the finished result.

The indicators are indeed dynamic, its the upper part of the DRL’s ‘C’ shape.

If anybody can advise on the coding of the taillights?

I have a ‘Check taillight’ left and right error

Thanks All!

Hi again Langers,

(To my rescue when I start a needless expensive project!)

I believe the equivalent scan with OBD11 is a full backup.

I’ve included the file here but unsure if it provides enough information.

Please let me know!

Does that mean you have a dynamic, flashing red light when indicating..? That’s how I’m reading that. Think you’ll have issues come MOT time if that’s the case.

You’re exactly right.

I didn’t realise this, thank you!
It might just sneak by due to the standard indicator working as normal.

If it causes issue for myself, I’ll need to get a soldering iron out…

Another update, error codes are easily removed by changing some adaptions to reflect a factory LED installation.

I can include the diagram here but it’s in the ‘Tried and Tested’ adaptions thread.

I’ve set my parking lights as DRLs which looks nice for now!

Hi!, I´m looking to do the same tail light upgrade to my car. I was thinking of buying the same "fake" facelift lights. What's your opinion on them so far? I think they look great but my only worry is that dynamic red coloured turn signal, have you done anything to get rid of it? And lastly, do they have the coming home function where they do the audi style light dance?

They look great still.

If it comes up on MOT in a couple weeks, I’ll try solder in a new row of LEDS with green light to create yellow.

And yes, they do a light dance. Always when headlights are switched on.

very nice when unlocking the car at night, always gets a few wows

Hello all,

just to close off this post;

I’ve gone ahead and opted to fit 3rd Party LED headlights whilst fixing another issue.

Here’s how they look;

Hi again, after a couple of years I finally purchased the same headlights as you, however they come with some cables in the box that I don’t really know the purpose of. Did you get those as well? And if you did, how did you wire them?

thanks a lot!
