I’m having problems with my automatic Skoda fabia vrs , every other go at starting the car it won’t start I turn the key and it makes like a screeching noise and doesn’t start , then next time it will . It recently had a timing chain fitted

The crank sensor and cam sensor deal with starting the engine , if the car is timed up slightly wrong or the vvt pulleys wernt set to the right setting prior to retiming this could be problematic 

Well when I took it to the garage they said it could be those VVT pullies because they weren’t changed at the time and that they are expensive . Could this be the case 

Saving £100 at the time is not as expensive as having to do the job again.

 

Since you posted in the past with issues was the car ever running well?

I think the past issue I posted ended up being loose wiring if I remember rightly which was sorted and fine , could this startup problem be anything different to the pully 

Screeching noise is probably just the starter motor, this may be a simpler resolution than you think...

I tried to post a video of the noise but I’m un Able to , when I turn the key it’s like it’s trying to start then after a few goes it will 

?

Has the car had the water pump replaced and both the belts?

When did it get a new battery?

What else has the car had done and why did the timing chain get changed?

It got a new battery after the timing chain , it got the timing chain done cos the car broke down wasn’t running and the garage said it was way out of timing , I don’t think it’s ever had the water pump done , I’ve managed to post a video of the noise . 

No idea what that is on the video though, sorry.
