Long term coolant leak but no sign of it externally

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me how you can check to see if your charge or egr cooler is leaking internally.  Ive removed a couple of the sensors to see if I can get my scope inside but the holes are to small . I loose about 300ml of coolant every 500 miles ish . Been like it 12 months fed up of topping it up now 2018 vrs tdi dsg

I'd be interested in knowing too! as I've got a similar problem! 63 Plate SE with a DSG

My local dealership investigated, they pressurised the system (no pressure problems) said the it might need a Flush and new bottle (at a cost of £1000) an even said (because I balked at this) that the Heating might not work properly! Which it does (after calibrating the ducts)

But after 500 to 750 miles (sometimes even longer) I need to top up the bottle... well to the line.

Same issue. I believe you can get a borescope into the charge cooler, I can't track down the post RN though.

Do a search, there’s been at least one case of a cracked head that passed the cold pressure test but would use coolant when the engine was hot and running.

This was my issue. Have a read of the various threads, ended up replacing my cylinder head. Dealers were absolutely useless in diagnosing...

Did you solve this yet @stig1?

My experience is here:

Albeit mine is a 2019 Tsi, i had a leaking thermostat housing, would slowly lose coolant and i had to keep on topping it up, are you experiencing worse fuel economy? i'd maybe get that checked see if its an issue as mine passed pressure checks
