CV joints

Featured Replies

Ok so while I have bumper and wing off repairing the bit of damage done by the van that reversed into me (thanks for that) I'm going to do the last of the suspension/ drivetrain jobs and replace both sides inner and outer CV joints but are both joints same both sides or different please ???

So I've decided to do a proper job and ordered complete new fully assembled driveshafts for both sides and I'm very impressed with this company and tbh works out better buying complete and makes the job a lot easier I would think if anyone else is considering it. Only issue I have is I have to find where I can buy the inner cv gaskets from like this.

What's wrong with your old CV joints?

He hasn't changed them yet.

You hear mixed reviews about J&R but didn’t stop me buying one for my Clio 182. For the price I thought sod it and give it ago. I have kept the old one however just in case.

I'm starting to get a click on the o/s router tab and I'm one of those people who likes to change both sides when it comes to suspension and drive train so while its stripped down I might as well do dinners as well then I've done everything front and rear :)

Let me know how it goes faboka and I will be keeping hold of the originals for now as well

What you get up to with routers and dinners while your car is stripped down is nobody's business but your own!😂

On a more informative note, is there any brand/supplier that folk have had really good experience with? I think I'll be needing ones for my vRS this year and will probably go genuine but am interested to hear if there are maybe any stronger made joints out there?

Well the Clio’s not been on the road for 6 years so can’t promise much feedback yet haha.

so update went to start them today but got stopped in my tracks as i found this offside looks like the boot has split on steering rack and a bit of fluid on the wishbone, is this just finding a new boot and replacing or do i have a steering rack issue ???20230304_110940.thumb.jpg.ea46c0cc105ae1b4ff6e6556fcc544c1.jpg

I wouldn't call it an issue, you have a negligible weep on the rack seal but you do need to replace that boot for the MOT.

I think I read about their dodginess years ago on clubgti, and the name rang a bell, hence googling and finding that less than stellar trustpilot rating.

Further to our private message about Febi gaiters, there are two sizes depending on production number, which you can find on the label in the service book or under the boot carpet.

Skoda production number 1N2 = Febi 21700

Skoda production number 1N5 = Febi 38622

Access to get the inner clips on is very tight, so in my case I used Halfords 32-50mm stainless steel hose clips...

Cool do you remember what size the small clips were ???

The small clips are factory, I didn't replace them. They are reuseable spring clips, you just squeeze them with pliers.

so i popped the battery off yesterday so i could check the power steering fluid and lets say i could see no fluid it took about quarter litre to fill it to level now i know its been about 2 years since i topped this up but ive no idea how long it has taken for that to leak out so will give it a few days and check level again and have ordered new boots to try that route first.

If no good then its steering rack time which i really dont want to do as i dont like the idea of dropping out the sub frame 😞
