Fabia Ambient 1.9 TDI 100 or Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Never driven any variant other than the vRS and to be honest wouldn't want to. If you can stretch to the extra cash, go for it - you get the economy, the power, the looks and the feel you're in something a bit special. Good as I'm sure the PD100 is, the vRS will be 100 times better - and there can't be many cars on the road where the top of the range - which is infinitely better than the rest of the range - is so close to the prices of the lesser cars in the range.....if you get my drift

Yep that does make sense. Especially as the VRS isn't that much more than the ambient. Although I will still test both.

Currently I am swaing towards the VRS simply as the overall package is better. The only real downer is the insurance. Whilst not really bad it is

nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnot if its an 04 mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmodel, bbbbbbbbbbbbut if its 06...........

I have brought a car from main dealer and they will not do the 30 exchange plan although their is a fault with the fuel gauge. they say unless it is a major fault they cannot. could you please let me know what dealer you are using so that i can contact them for advice

Well I have decided after a length test drive I am picking up the vRS on Saturday (17/6). :)

A quick taster shot:

Thompeanuts: I am unsure why your dealer won't honour the 30 day exchange as I don't think there are any clauses (in terms of why you want to change). However it may be that your dealer don't have a 30 da exchange as I am unsure whether it is a dealer specific or not. Have you done over 1000 miles in your car sice purchase as there is a clause that its 30 days or 1000miles whichever comes sooner.

welcome to the vRS club then!:D

I must disagree on insurance, at least for me. My PD100 with a dragon box is insured with mods for £100 less than the cheapest vRS quote I could get. And it's quicker than a standard vRS because it's a lot lighter.

Back to the original question, being a PD100 owner I am biased, but I personally reckon the PD100 offers better handling potential as the car is lighter, but the engine is limited to power and isn't as strong. 6 cogs instead of 5 is, IMO, a bit daft for a 'sporty' diesel as a diesel is quickest hanging around in each gear as long as possible, so the more widely spaced 5 speeder is theoretically quicker. I have no issues with driveability myself, but that's me.

Interior - vRS thrashes the PD100 into the ground, the Ambiente interior (although smarter on the newer cars than my older 02 plate) is still a bit naff compared with the leather trimmed vRS. But, there's a reason for the extra price.

Test drive them both, see what you think. If you like a sleeper, get a PD100 and tweak away. If not, go for a vRS although it still has a very conservative bodykit it looks a bit more sporty.

Just read though and realised . . . oh well, vRS is nice too - I'm just jealous. :D

Vrs look's good, Used to have a 1.9tdi100bhp Elegance, insurance was

A towbar on a vRS:eek: Won't be fitting one of them lol.

On the front of insurance I was shocked when my fiancee (tracy) phone up diamond and its only

A few sleepless nights of anticipation for you then!

Thought the octy 2.0l tdi was about on a par with the fabia if not slightly faster, now the octy vRS- thats a whole new ballgame ;)

Sure you will enjoy the Fabia tho, still got a couple of months before mine arrives!

They do seem to be about the same however the fabia felt like it had more urge (probably due to the lack of weight compared to the octavia).

Out of interest with you saying about the octy VRS I did a quick quote for insurance and it came out exactly a grand more than the Fabia vRS. Won't be having one of them for a while lol.

Can't wait for saturday now. Dammit I have an AAT exam tommorow and then work on thursday and friday!

I'd reckon the Furby would be slightly quicker - I took a 130PD Superb (5 speed) up against a 2.0TDi Octy and (handling aside - the Octy was much better through the bends) there was nothing in it pace-wise.

Before anyone says not trying or driver or whatever it was me against my brother with the intention of seeing what the performance differences were and we both drove both cars.

I suspect performance is on a par (Octy is bigger but has more horses to compensate), but the big difference is the delivery of that power which can make one car feel faster. The Octy has smooth power delivery across the rev range with very little turbo lag, whereas the Fabia is nothing, nothing, and then bang huge amounts of torque, and then it tails off around 4k. This means the Fabia feels faster because there's a big surge :D

No

Hanging around in more widely spaced gears is always theoretically slower

More closely stacked gears are always quicker whatever the engine
