Hi there,

 

My MKII Superb came with the incorrect head unit. It works completely fine, but my OCD doesn't like it not matching perfectly 😂

 

It's currently got a VW branded RNS 315 unit. Which as I said, works fine. But the lights are the wrong colour etc etc. 

 

I want to buy a Skoda RNS 510 Columbus. Which is what the car would have originally come with. 

 

I have conflicting information on how complex this is to do. Some videos look like drop in replacement (unplug replug jobs done), others mention "coding" something I am very unfamiliar with. 

 

Any information would be MASSIVELY appreciated before I try and buy and sell the units. 

 

I have also been confused by the existence of "codes". Which appears to be some kind of password that the units can have on them.

 

I have attached a photo of the currently installed unit incase I got it wrong.

I believe it has a third party DAB arial that was installed by the previous owner. There's a puc shaped thing on the dash.

 

I've never tried tbh as I only use my phone and BT for music. But there's a couple DAB stations if I press the button 

What about BT module? Do you have VCDS. Vag Can Pro, OBD Eleven, or ODIS? If not, pls check if you have a module under driver's seat.

Well it has Bluetooth.... I can do the remote SIM thing with my phone and that's how I play my music as well. 

I know but RNS-315 can have BT built-in, contrary to RNS-510 in which BT is ALWAYS external module. So the question is what BT you use now and if you still have original BT in the car.

I'm using the cars Bluetooth I believe. It shows up on the trip computer and attempts to load the phonebook from it. I press the media button on the radio to access the music stream. 

Both work the same way so it's really crucial to determine if you still have the original one under the seat.

The name of the Bluetooth device I'm connected to is "SKODA_BT" if that's any help for now

The plastic cover removal does not require any tools and then you shoul dsee BT module under it.

Good news! In such case you will need Columbus RNS510 model number 3T0035686x (x - any letter). This is unit with DAB/DAB+ receiver, be careful NOT to buy any other model number (e.g. 3T0035680x, 3T0035681x) as they don't have DAB/DAB+ receiver.

 

Instead of buying Columbus you can also get some MIB STD2 PQ unit, from Yeti FL, which will then give you more features, e.g. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and will allow you sell current BT module as these units have BT module integrated.

As I said previously I don't use radio features at all, 3T0035680x models (at least here in the UK) are less than HALF what the 3T0035686x costs. The Yeti unit also being closer to £500 rather than the £200 of the 3T0035680x.

 

Would it still work, just without DAB?

I believe the letter is map region? So A for me as I'm western Europe.

Ive also found the firmware update and map update (2020/2021) Iso images so I can update it fully. 

Hold your horses. x is not for region but for version - the higher is better. 3T0035681x is also fine. I recommend the units on software 6270 or 6276 as these are so called C14 versions, with more powerful processor, more memory, SSD instead of HDD and more effective GPS chipset.
