Problem with dip beam lights on skoda fabia mk2

Featured Replies

Hello any help would be greatly appreciated,  i have a problem with dip beam lights they do not work but the indicator lights and side lights work so there is power going to the lamps, checked bulbs ,fuses no issue. The high beam setting works on stalk. Ive put a dip light switch in and still no working, there doesn't seem to be power going to fuse 57 and 58. Ive checked a wiring diagrams it just says wires from fuse 57 and 58 go to main harness b456 connection (56b).

I cant seem to find a diagram for main harness ive checked erwin, maybe i haven't checked it properly. Has anyone ever encountered this problem before?

To me that is the column switch

Thanks for the reply, the switch you are on about is to operate high beam and indicators also wipers on other side? Does the power for dip lights go through this switch?

what type of headlights have you got ? "Normal" or Bi-Halogen (projector)

It's the dip switch on the steering column; it burns the dip beam contacts out.

The dip switch i replaced is located on the right, it would be near your right knee if siting in car, that switch on the column operates the high beam could that still be the issue?

The rotary headlight switch by your right knee is not, and never has been, the dip switch.

Im a little confused, maybe i worded it wrong, when i operate the rotary switch to turn the headlights on, the headlights do not turn on but the column stalk works for the high beam setting the lights turn on but when i let go to go back to low beam only my side light will remain on. The stalk seems to be working for both directions foward and backwards.

Then it's the rotary switch, simply replace it.

I did already and the issue is still there.

The column switch does the changeover

As Crasher says, the column stalk is the culprit. The rotary switch is Off - Side - Main. The stalk selects which of the main lights operate, Dip or Full beam.

OK, I didn't say this in so many words before, but this means that the dip beam contacts on the column stalk (dip switch) are burnt out. It is nothing to do with the side/dip head/fog lights rotary switch on the fascia, as proven by the main beam being functional.

Digging up an old thread here, but I'm facing the exact same issue and symptoms.

If it possible to repair the column switch, or only replace it?

It's quite an expensive part to write off over what I presume is just some dodgy contacts, especially for the 1.2TSI elegance with cruise control - £120 part + from a quick glance, plus some confusion over exactly which part number I need and the risk of buying the wrong one.

Has anyone had any luck at trying to clean / repair the contacts in the existing one?

Or alternatively, what are people's thoughts on bypassing the dip switch entirely, and maybe just putting a dedicated switch on the dash or something?

Would it be possible to isolate this control from the main beams? Does it even need to be mutually exclusive? Would the car suffer any consequences if both full and dipped beams were on at the same time, retaining full beam control through the old column switch, and dipped beam via a dash mounted switch? I have no idea if the power draw would be too great, or the light perhaps too blinding.
