hi guys ,

im looking at buying a octavia 1.6 2009.but it has a few lights on.... the EML light is on....., the STEERING WHEEL light is on....., the COIL light stayed on,

i only had chance to start the car and not drive it due to been blocked in at the time .it fired up straight away no smoke but it would not rev past 2000 . it has 160471 miles.

i dont have any access to a code reader so i could not get any codes.

is there a rev limiter for when the car is stationary ?

what does the steering wheel light mean ? and is it expensive ?

the last skoda i had was a favourite so none of this stuff,

can anyone plz advise , what the heck it could be ,thank you .

Hi, welcome to the forum. I assume this this a diesel?

Yes, there is a rev-limiter when transmission is in neutral.

Steering wheel symbol will be for some problem with power steering, although could possibly be low battery charge. If steering rack faulty, probably expensive.

Is this being sold by a dealer - if so, what do they say about the fault lights?

hi warrior

yes its the diesel .yes it is been sold by a dealer they were not interested in it much as it was a trade in and just said it has a few lights on . the coil light staying on is that a problem ? im thinking a second hand steering rack to bring that cost down if needed, the battery was disconnected when i viewed the car they let me reconnect the battery and it started  not a problem straight away ,

I suggest walking away from that one unless you can get a tame mechanic to take a look. Lack of 'interest' from the dealer could be a cover for just getting shot of a lot of problems.

You can get a cheap one from fleabay; around a tenner last time I looked but may have gone up a bit by now.

Certainly take a very close look at - DPF condition, Glow plugs and that P.S. fault. See if the fault lights extinguish after a drive. Also see if it's trying to re-gen the DPF.

The steering wheel / coil light etc can stay on if the battery had died or been disconnected. Usually they will go off after vehicle is driven 100 yards or so or steering is turned lock to lock. Totally normal.

Deffo need to arrange a test drive IMO

However, I'm wondering if the EM (with you saying the EML is on) is restricting the revs, and this may remain a problem during any test drive. Ie, in limp mode ????
