My car seems to be overheating...

Featured Replies

Hey dudes..

Just want an opinion...

Yesterday, I went to pick up my little sister from school..afterward I needed to gas it up, so I stopped at the next gas station. Switched off engine, filled tank. When I started the car, my AC wasn't cooling the air. It was on...but it wasn't cooling the air. Imagine my worries knowing we hit 45 degrees yesterday alone. Funny...so at the traffic lights I switch off the car and start it again...and it was working.

But then I had noticed that while driving, every once in a while the AC would stop cooling air, and then would start again...I have...or had, absolutely no idea why.

Then later in the evening, after work I had to go to my showroom...parked the car...AC started continued doing it's little bit...but then I noticed the instrument panel...and the temp sensor hit f****** red. Anyhoo, I also noticed that when driving the temp would 'cool'...but still go over 50% regularly.

I was quite shocked, this has never happened before...then again being a 3 year old car, I wasn't pist off about it. Popped the hood to check coolant level, and it's at optimum level.

I've already taken it to the dealer and am leaving it there for the weekend, and it will pick it up next week once this problem is solved and once the servicing has been done on the car (including the new face fix I'm giving her).

What could be the problem and it's overheating? It isn't like I'm fixing it myself so I hope this thread isn't categorized as a non-freedom member techie question. Just want opinions and diagnosis for myself.

Check the cooling fan operation. The AC will not work if the AC fan is not working, seems like the radiator fan as well is intermittent.

Sounds like either one or both of the fans could be playing up. Especially if the a/c isnt functioning properly. Its about the only common element between the a/c and cooling system.

Just a hunch - any chance vehicles sold in the middle east had the VW Golf version of the climatronic system fitted as what you describe matches the fairly common problem Golf owners have encountered with cooling fans. This is extensively discussed on the Golf owners site at

(Sadly our LHD TDi130 4motion estate out in the Alps has this problem.)

Wow..

Thanks for the prompt reply dudes. I had thought the fans would be the problem, however, they aren't (this time...fan motors have been changed quite a few times before)...I just got a call from the dealer telling me my coolant system is working perfectly, i.e. both fans are working, and there is no leak in the cooling system or radiator.

A bit odd. They'll be taking it out for a drive to help find out any other possible problems for it to have over heated last night.
