Had a few issues with the MK2 VRS when bought 2.0lt petrol

Had a rattle at idle and a horrible cut out when warm mainly after sitting in traffic - ESP light flashing and  engine stutter, had codes p0011 and  p0341,  p0341 only came active when the light was on and juddering

just done cam chain and Adjuster pulley, and N205 valve all good and rattle now gone, but still getting the ESP light and a stutter almost undrivable now (not pulled codes yet)

Question is, if the plastic rings in the cam chain cover are damaged or split would ot cause these issues?

Is this mk2 or mk2 facelift? If main timing is by chain it will be facelift ccza engine code.

Plastic rings on timing cover? Not sure what you mean but if it is not totally sealed it will introduce a vacuum leak.

The fine oil separators /pcv assembly can also cause bad running and should be replaced with a genuine item, aftermarkets often introduce problems.

What error codes and description,  remain or are shown now?

MK2 - main timing is by belt

It's the plastic sealing rings on the inside of the cam chain cover that sits inside of the VVT pulley

Codes are - P0011 and P0341

Drives fine until sat in traffic for a while, then try to drive after clearing traffic and bucks like a stallion with ESP light  flashing,

Broke down yesterday, cut out, when trying to pull away from lights all lights on dash with a warning sound like a flatline from the dash, but started straight up after a couple of mins sat still not been able to pull codes yet, need to wait till back at work and plug in the texa

Yeah ok. It was the reference to timing chain that made me ask, but you're talking about the chain linking the two camshafts at the other end of the engine.

The BWA mk2 set up is quite different to the mk2 fl (Ea888 gen 2), which is all chains and the vvt is controlled by an electro magentic actuator and a valve inside the camshaft that controls oil into the variator assembly vanes.

What do the 3 plastic rings seal? Do they provide sealing for hydraulic pressure used in the vvt mechanism or just to prevent oil leakage to outside the cover?  IF the latter then they are probably aren't going to cause timing or rough running. If the former, then they could cause performance issues.

Have you monitored camshaft timing measuring blocks and revved engine. Actual and specified should follow quite nicely..
