Dizzy Blonde needs advice on scratches,on her octy vrs

Featured Replies

somebody has decided to scratch my new car, i just need some advice on what to do.! should i take it to a specialist. or is there any polish out there that could buff them out, there not deep but they look a mess on the bonnet and the wing.. cheers !

Time to get buffing girl!, there are plenty of products to take out swirls and light scratches but go careful and follow the instructions to the letter. This web page may help too!. :P

Is it just the laquer coat thats scratched, or does it go deeper?

Sorry to hear about the vandalism can't have bu33er al these days. If you can see the primer then it will have to be a spray job, for light swirl type scratches there are various products but I haven't tried to use any yet so can't recomend, or use a pc which seem quite popular on here. For a quick but temporary cosmetic fix I used to use a childs wax crayon, (in colour of car) to fill in chips etc before polishing.

Got a nice big scratch right down the side of my OctyII. The scumbag that did it spanned 5 panels and the car needed a respray on the drivers side. Claimed on the insurance but the cost on the invoice I signed was just over £1,200. Just thought i'd cheer you up Jen.

just had a look !! looks like its the laquer..

This will sound crazy but works better than any car product I've ever used. Duraglit BRASSO wadding [in the small round tin.] Been using it since motorbike days. [= 1968 !!] DON'T use the Silvo version, only Brasso, and not the "liquid in a tin" type.

Take a small chunk of the wadding, size of a big grape, and rub it in circular motions across the scratch - firm pressure but no need to go mad. Polish off the haze that forms with any ordinary car wax. Friends that have tried it can't believe it works but in most cases is does. Give it a go on a small area of scratch, then do the lot if you find it working as above - I always do.

What have you got to lose. Give it a go and you can always get it sprayed as a last resort. Good luck

Just clean the surface, blob a bit of this on a soft clean cloth and give it a good rub.

Unlike similar stuff I've tried this just works and doesn't leave its own scratches.

Good stuff!

Never come across that stuff - might also give it a try.

But re the Duraglit wadding, I had a bright red Primera GT a few years back, some **** scored it right across the boot back surface, must have been a 3 ft long scar, down to the white primer. Thought it was a dead cert for respray till working on it with the Brasso. Took a long time but the score slowly disappeared - I couldn't believe it myself, it seems to somehow stretch the paint either side of the scratch back into place - might depend on the exact type of paint, but more than worth a go. Good go over with one of the Autoglym waxes and never spotted it again.

Would like to come round and 'try it on' with ya! ;)

I've also fallen victim to some keying, I've got a crime number because I asked our local police to have a look at our CCTV to see if that showed up anything when I discovered it at work. In my line of work it's possible for revenge etc to happen

I'm not sure what to do to be honest. I was gonna post a pic to get opinions. I've got it booked in at the dealers next week for something and was wondering if it's best to get them to sort it maybe through insurance. I never bothered with Velma with this sort of thing, but it's kinda disheartening to have a brand new car defaced.

The keying of my car was a revenge thing (don't ask) and i also have a crime number. In fact I have 3 crime numbers because that's how many of our cars they have keyed so far. The chap that did it is going to lose the use of his legs for a few months but he doesn't know it yet ;) .

oooooh err!! now theres a cheeky offer!!!!!

Got my MK I keyed along the entire side the other day :( (W*nkers)

ScratchX did the job and you can't see it at all. While it may cost the best part of £10, i hardly used any at all.

Meguires ScratchX. Thats the stuff. £8.00 from Halfords

Interesting - I'm going to get some and compare it with my Duraglit [couple of quid and lasts about 15 years!]. But if the ScratchX is better, I will be happy to have it.

I took the scratchX since i know it was designed for clearcoat paints.

I had used the Duraglit wadding before on flat paints and it worked really well, but I'm a bit paranoid about damaging this car.

It's just so sad that some people think that it is funny to damage somebody's pride and joy.

There must be some very bored people out there!

They aren't just bored - they are nasty, stupid, and cowardly. You only have to read the daily papers to see tihs.

It's becoming a national disgrace. Only tonight I was sitting in my living room reading to my six year old son before bedtime, and there were a group of three 10 year olds throwing stones at our house. Eventually they broke a double glazed unit and I phoned 999. Police were totally uninterested and had no personnel available until I told them that I had attacked one of them with a iron bar.(I hadn't, of course)

THEN they came round!

I must admit I was ready to draw blood when I found mine. It worries me to think what would've happened if I had caught them in the act :o

a few years ago we had some low lives come knocking on the door doing trick or treat. I wouldn't give them anything seeing as they were just scummy little teenagers after what they could get. They went away but within about fifteen minutes we heard a comotion outside. A bunch of the same kids were kicking our fence in, and I mean seriously kicking it in:mad:

When we opened the front door they legged it, Mr P went legging it out the back door (we live on a corner) and I legged it out the front and down the road after them. They got away so I ran back to get my car keys, got in my car and went looking for them, alone :o

I went to look where I thought was a local hang out and saw some kids there that could've been them but i wasnt 100% sure. I screeched my car to a hault and got out and confronted these probably innocent teenagers. I asked them where they had been, and told them to pass on a message to their friends if they turned up, I told them in no uncertain terms what would happen to them if I caught up with them or ever found out who it was.

Looking back I was so stupid, anything could've happened and those that know me will know that there's nothing of me. It was a sheer act of reaction to what had just happened. I can honestly count the amount of times I have totally lost it on one hand and still have fingers left.

Wow, that was so cathartic :D
