Cooling system problems

Featured Replies

I have a Skoda Yeti which I have owned for 8 years and barring a few relatively minor problems it has been a joy to own.  However, recently it has developed a couple of niggling faults with the cooling system.  Sometimes when I turn off the engine the cooling fan continues to run, and the temperature gauge has virtually stopped working.  The AC works fine, and the heater works.  I have had the two sensors replaced and the thermostat to no avail.  Any ideas would be welcome.

If the fan continues after you switch off, it's likely to be because the DPF was doing a regen which it hadn't completed before you stopped.

I suggest that for the other issue, you get the car scanned.

Is that because of an interrupted DPF regeneration?
Are you doing mainly short journeys?

I suppose the longest journey I do at the moment is about 30 miles.

So what is the usual journey?
How many of your journeys are less than 6 miles?

Have you changed the DSG thermostat also? This seems to be a common issue with cars not getting up to operating temperature. May or may not be related to your fans running/possible DPF issues though

Most of my journeys are under 6 miles.

That's why the fans are running when you stop due to an interrupted regeneration, the DPF filter needs more than that and eventually it will go into limp mode and will need a forced regeneration.
As to the temperature gauge my Yeti needs more than 6 miles to get temperature this time of year.

The issue with the temperature gauge are that even on a longish run the temperature moves a few clicks but then settles back to zero.  It never gets to the 90 degrees which I believe is the optimum running temperature.

Is the coolant level between the high and low marks?
Edit: Does the heater work as it should?

Both apposite questions!

Read it again, if coolant low or heater not working it could tie in with the temperature gauge not registering correctly.

Er, read it again!

Just realised, perhaps you thought I wrote opposite?

Coolant has been topped up by my local garage, and heater works, as does the AC.
