Coasting on a DQ381 DSG gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Didn't find any other suitable thread so I'll ask here. Can someone with DQ381 gearbox confirm in which driving modes "coasting" is engaged? I'm currently experiencing some issues with the DSG and coasting isn't engaged in any of the modes. I'm 100% sure it was engaged in ECO, COMFORT and NORMAL mode when it worked. But the dealer today tried to convince me I'm being "stupid" and it is engaged only in ECO mode. I need someone to confirm my claim so I'll know I'm not going crazy.

Thanks @Jamster330 Appreciated! 🥰 Mine is the same year and month as yours. Could be this was somehow changed with the later models? 🤔

Maybe...I guess we wait to see if any other owners of same car do/dont get coasting in Eco/Comfort modes

I have red your message again. Can you also confirm or deny if coasting is working also in Normal mode in your car?

Thanks to admins for making a separate thread. Makes more sense now. Sorry for not doing it from the start. 😇

Mine is also from 2020 (one of the first ordered in SLO) and it's still 'coasting' in Normal mode (which I really don't like) and I want it gone... 😀

I do confirm, mine is coasting in normal mode as well, car build in November 2020.

For sure (as usual) the dealer won't care much about whatever a Forum thread is saying... 'cause they know better... 🙄
But in case it matters: my 2022 Octavia is still coasting in Normal mode; I have to admit I never used Eco mode so far. :blush

Great, simply flick-back the DSG joystick to go into "S" instead of "D". I also hate it and I'm always driving in S, never in D; sometimes I forget about that but I'm reminded at the first deceleration of the car.

Apologies for delayed reply- yes it does kick in occasionally in Normal mode when I m taking it easy which isnt very often!

You do not have to be taking it it easy to have 'coasting' operating, you can be driving as hard as you want and just have your toe off the accelerator and the clutches can disengage and you are rolling along while there is no load on the engine and then when you use the accelerator again you have drive again.

That is as long as 'coasting' is enabled.

Just lift your foot quicker off the accelerator and it will go straight to engine braking. Takes some time to get used to, but when you do you can force either coasting or engine braking just by the way you lift your foot.

@Jorgeminatoryour car does not have a DQ381 does it and it is it on CNG, or is it a Mild Hybrid so behaves totally differently does it not?

Is it a DQ200-e DSG in your car?

I've got the DQ200 yeah, but I thought they would behave similarly. It's not a hybrid, just bi-fuel CNG/petrol with the 1.5 TSI.

@JorgeminatorThey really do not behave similarly other than being automatics.

I drove back to back last week a 1.5 TSI ACT DSG Kamiq and a 2.0 TSI DSG Karoq and they were exactly as i knew they would be which is chalk and cheese.

I like DQ200 DSG's but it is not just the difference of a Dry Clutch DSG over a Wet Clutch DSG, there is the ACT or not, and the 100 or more BHP difference.

Mine usually does as Jorgeminator says, lift off slowly, it coats, lift off quickly, it engine brakes. but as with everything Mk4 it doesn't always do the same thing!!

all new octavias come with new transmissions  DQ200 that apparently require no maintenance. Which I really doubt it. image.png.21021c3382b4a8bcc87d04d1e7af1949.png

@bolixYou are right to doubt it.

If they are no more than 250 Nm of torque and FWD they might well have a DQ200 /DQ200-e.

But no 2.0 TDI or TSI or PHEV has a DQ200, they will have DQ381,s or DQ400-e's.

All E-TEC, or Mild-Hybrid, vehicles has DQ200 transmission box.

Because no more than 250 Nm & FWD, and not 2.0 TSI or TDI's or PHEV's.
