Re SE L TDI Automatic hatchback

Should I be worried with the digital oil temp getting over 110 Deg? The dial gauge is stuck at 90 all the time after warming up. Thought I had an oil leak but seems to be run off from sump guard when parked on a hill!!

What is it, a 1.6 or 2.0 TDI?  Not that that matters.   Other than which DSG it will have.

 

Depends how you are driving and the weather / ambient temp. 

110*oC indicated oil temp can be OK, if you are trucking on.

 

Is it the Coolant Gauge @ 90*oC indicated after the engine coolant is up to temp?  That is normal.   The Coolant cools the Oil and brings it back down to below 100*oC. 

 

So how many miles has your car done? 

Is the oil changed annually or on variable servicing?

Is it at the correct level when the Engine / Oil is at normal operating temp, so the engine stopped after the oil has got to an indicated 90*oC or so? 

 

Before any panic or worry be sure the oil level is good, the oil all good,

Hi 

The 2.0 TDI . Done 85000 miles variable oil service intervals recently done. Noticed the temp whilst going through Spain. 

So the dial gauge is water temp? Hence the difference.

Level is ok. Though checking hot does give a higher level.

110*oC indicated oil temp could be perfectly OK then.

The oil @ Normal Operating temp should be at the top of Area A.   Be sure it is not overfilled from Cold checks. 

 

Your DSG OIl changes are @ 40,000 miles if you have a 6 speed DQ250 DSG.

Ignore what any modern VAG coolant temp gauge says, they are intentionally programed to read 90 from a real 77 to 117.

Cheers for help. Since switching from dealer garage to local garage I've found it difficult to track service records - no paper trails anymore! But notice dsg oil change was 40000+ ago. Need to get that done! 

This might not be that helpful if you don’t know German, I don’t do no idea what he’s saying but I do know the oil temps are a lot higher so I think you’ll be fine and I’m sure mines around 110 too

The temperature that the oil might be at when the ambient temp is in the high 20's degree celcius.

 

Plenty will have a 2.0 TDI's oil  at the likes of 110*oC even in cooler weather and sticking to 70 mph maybe.   

But then there are enough that drive them on here to be able to confirm that.

 

Easy enough to just try and see at 70 mph and maybe at 100 mph and see where the Oil temp gets to, and how it drops as your speed drops.

If you’re concerned about the oil temps you could try using liquid moly ceratec. It’s known to reduce friction and hence lower oil temps.

And how have the results been?

The engine is relatively low milage as I fitted it new VAG exchange when I bought the car at four years old with a fragged engine so it is difficult to quantify really, the VVT actuator had been playing up bringing on the MIL (it is oil pressure activated) and that stopped as well as the chain rattle first thing, I think Ceratec has its best benefits with direct wiping contact parts like timing chains and none roller tappets. I just about beg anyone with a timing chain engine to use it, modern low saps oil is cruel to chains. I have always had a low opinion of snake oil cures but have found Slick 50 gearbox treatment and Ceratec to be beneficial.

Is there any plug and play oil radiator for our Skoda Superbs?

None that I know of.

Dont worry about yout 110ºC. And we are still in winter 😞
