Karoq or Tiguan

Featured Replies

I've got a Passat for the moment but is very interested i a Karoq or a Tiguan. But is wondering if the karoq is gonna be big enough.

Me and my partner is 6 foot 1", have a 3 year old and a baby on the way.

So two rearfacing car seats and a large stroller must fit.

The passat is great size inside but most of the time I drive alone and then it's quite big. Plus I need a higher car because of bad knees.

The Tiguan is a bit bigger inside, but a bit boring. I want fwd so a Kodiaq is not possible unfortunately.

Thankful for info from other families.

Do you not get the FWD Kodiaq in Sweden?

Sadly no, even the Tiguan was only 4wd until 2021.

But most Karoq are fwd.

This is probably because more and more people in Sweden think that you need 4wd because of the snow.

I am 6 foot 3 inches  with a bit of a bad back and i have no trouble with height or getting in or out which was one of the reasons i bought the Karoq

Same here (except I’m 6’1”) and also have a dodgy back and the ease of getting in and out of the car was one of the deciding factors over getting a Octavia.

I can’t speak from experience about rear kids seats but online reviews seem to suggest the Karoq works well for large isofix children’s seats.

Take a test drive, then decide.

I have done a test drive in a Karoq and if feels good. But it hard to get a sense if the size is right in everyday use in a short test drive. Would need to test it for a day or two so you really could fill it up with stuff, but that's not possible here.

Nice to hear that it really is good for tall people and easy to get in.

I've never had an issue with space in Karoq.

Observation 1: My car has picnic tables for rear seat passengers which are never used but eats in to knee room. If you're after rear space it's best not to have a car with picnic tables.

Observation 2: If you select a car with vario-flex rear seats then you have various options. If you have two baby seats in the rear then the middle seat is pretty much useless anyway. With varioflex you could remove middle seat altogether, place your buggy length ways and have loads of room left over in the trunk. Or have stroller in the boot and pile up the space where the middle seat is with all the bags etc that go along with two small children. In this repect, you'll find the Karoq will have more available space than the Tiguan.

Great observations. Picnic tables is something i don't want in any car. Varioflex seats is standard in all models in Sweden except for sportline. So varioflex is something i like, many possibilities.

Great tip 😊

I have a 3 year old Grandaughter, to install her seat (on the rear seat) I have to move the passenger seat forward, otherwise access is difficult. When she's on board, the position of the seat in front would be ok for someone around 6 feet tall. My only concern would be if there's two child seats, I'd need to move both front seats to fit them, this would mean the driving postion would be altered and without memory seats, this can be a bit of a nuisance.

I was also in the same situation as you OP

between Karoq or Tiguan  (Kodiaq was too large of a car, or so I thought back then)

I have 2 small kids (oldest being 3 years old) and have 2 bulky rearfacing baby seats for them - in my trunk I always carry at least 1 stroller

I am 191cm tall and have no issue fitting in Karoq - but I am limited in how much I can move drivers seat backward due to it hitting the baby seat (but still, I have enough room even tho I can't move my seat back any further)

I would say Karoq is just about big enough for carrying 2 adults and 2 kids (3 adults can fit, but its not easy getting to the middle seat) - I went to numerous vacations with all 4 of us, including having 2 strollers in my trunk and a portable kids bed + having a big suitcase

I would definitely advise on getting a thule roof carrier if you have a lot of stuff you have to take with you - just to make your life easier and not having to leave anything out just cause it can't fit into the trunk and in the car itself

also keep in mind that your kids wont need big stollers (and portable beds) for long so your trunk space will free up after 2 or 3 years drastically

tiguan was (much) more expensive while not offering that much more room so I opted for Karoq

I am 8/10 happy with my  FWD 1.5TSI Karoq - would definately go with diesel cause I live in a big city and can get max 550KM of range on a full tank (which I find severely lacking compared to cars I woned in the past, namely diesels that could go over 800KM) - outside of cities it can get to 700KM

let me know if you've got any other questions

I've uploaded some pictures from one of our vacation trips to get a sense of how much stuff can fit in the car (there are 2 strollers in the trunk)

Great info, sounds great. Thank you!

I was hoping to use one carseat in the front and one in the rear seat behind it. But maybe it won't fit like that?

I am looking for a Karoq with varioflex, but i guess it's almost the same amount of space.

A Tiguan with the same engine is about 1000-3000 pounds, so not a massive difference. But the Karoq looks better inside a think, especially with semi-leather interior.
