Negative battery lead and fuel consumption readings

Featured Replies

Clutching at straws here......Any suggestions to confirm a faulty sensor on the negative battery lead on 2019 Karoq 1.5 SEL?

My fuel consumption readings and trip odometer regularly, randomly reset to zero. Wondering if the faulty sensor could be part of the problem.  Searching the web, offers replacement USED leads, which I am reluctant to buy.

Reset button does not appear to be sticking and I'm at a complete loss to know why readings reset to zero on a regular basis. Not the end of the world I admit, but long term fuel consumption

figures would be nice to have. Long term, Since refuelling and since start ALL reset to zero pretty much every day?

Hello Joe, that seems unlikely - I have seen references in this forum where some members have disconnected that sensor to permanently disable stop-start, I have not seen any issues reported when they did so.

More likely to be an intermittent open-circuit in the instrument cluster.

Thanks for the quick reply Warrior. Electronics are way out of my comfort zone! Stupid question (again), could whatever 'stores' the readings, be separate to whatever stores the total mileage reading. It must do as mileage does not zero

The reading are probably from the same module - but display indicator resets will be a separate function.

Are you aware that the long-term fuel consumption memory will automatically reset after a certain distance (or period?)?

My MY16 does this at approx. 1500 miles - but my trip reading is not affected when it does.

Mine does that after 100 hours driven.

Yes Briar, I am. However, there is no logic to my reset, regardless of time or distance 🤔

Ok Warrior, that is noted.Every reading resets on my car, Inc trip mileage. Just wish it happened before my warranty expired.

My trip odometer resets itself occasionally, so I've given up relying on it to calculate my MPG. The readings in the central display of MPGs also resets but the overall odometer isn't affected.

👍👍

Battery monitoring units don’t often cause issues but we have replaced a few on T6 vans and Caddy’s.

What faults prompted the replacement of the units Crasher?

Stop/start not working and poor charging from memory although on the T6 it can be a red herring as the LIN BUS wire from the battery monitor to alternator has an unused welded junction point which corrodes and snaps.

Thanks for the info Crasher
