Fabia MK3 remote

Featured Replies

Hi all have a question that is making my brain hurt, our Mk3 Fabia 2019 1.0 TSI se was only 5 months old when we purchased it and had the original remotes with the car, have replaced batteries every year as a matter of service, I have noticed now the remote we use every day works as it should one press unlock drivers door two presses and all doors open etc, tha spare remote which does get used say once a week has now changed to one press and all doors hatch fuel flap open rather strange,  I have taken battery out left the remote for 2-3 hours put a new battery back in but it's still the same, not a major issue as you can get in and car starts and runs ok no issue, contacted dealers and they said I need  a relacement remote around £300 but I'm not doing that just wondered had anyone come across this issue before and what causes it or how to re-set the remote back to original working system, ps buttons on remote are not stuck down and are clean inside and all other functions work on both remotes windows open on long press etc, thanks in advance

Is yours a KESSY remote?

no normal pesss the button to enter /lock etc but have the push button to start car keyless start

When you change the batteries do you do the synchronising of the remote control?

Was your car a 2018 or 2019 built car, 2018 appears to have the paper printed copy of the 'Owner's Manual' whereas 2019 has the even more annoying and less helpful digital version and for 2019 it has an extra instruction after removing the old key battery and before fitting the new key battery of - "Press any button on the remote key to reset the key" which I can't remember seeing on earlier versions of instructions.

I meant to put this doesn't sound right to me, for my wife's 2015 car at least, but it's not here to check and I've never set it to only open driver's door and fuel flap.  As I understand it you set it to open driver's door and fuel flap, driver's side and fuel flap or the lot and that's all it does whether you press the unlock button once or twice - but perhaps I'm wrong.

Car has the paper back type user guide and is indeed a 2018 build I have always  changed the batteries on both remotes every year to avoid any issues, always the same on both remotes after changing the batteries,  one press and car locks, one press and drivers door opens and fuel cap, 2 resses and all doors open , I only noticed this other remote opening all the doors etc on 1 prees unlock the other day, so i changed the battery as i thought it might be that but no it's doing this all the time, I  took battery out left for 1 hour pressed all the buttons on the remote opened car with the key got in tried to start the car and it could not find the key, held it near the colomn and heard a loud beep key now allowed car to start shut car off got out locked the doors waited 5 mins went back still the same one press all doors unlock, main key we use changed the battery in that one did the same again open door with the key etc locked car came back but this remote works as it should 1 press drivers door opens and fuel cap 2nd press all doors open, both remotes when you hold down the unlock open all the windows and again if you hold down the lock button on both all windows close  as  i said not a major issue just a strange problem that i though some one else had come across

Has your car been reprogramed or recoded with VCDS or other scan tool for remote and/or door opening options during your possession (or possibly before) as I can see no mention of two presses on the remote will open all doors in the pdf copy of the 2018 'Owner's Manual' I'm looking at.  (ETA: see my next post). -

When your remote plays up, or remote that doesn't, do you get the "Fault with the central locking" at all. -

The pdf of the 2018 'Owner's Manual' I'm looking at has after taking the remote battery out to "Hold any button on the key for about 5 s" - I don't know how important the 5 seconds is but I'd press for at least a timed 5 seconds.

And I'd synchronise the key using the key blade blade just in case. -

Up to you but for the sake of £300 as it's free to do I'd try -

  • (keep both keys well apart from each other and deal with each remote individually, so doing both individually as follows)
  • take the battery out of the remote and do the hold the button for 5 seconds
  • synchronise the remote
  • whilst in the car with the remote change the settings on the infotainment menu away from and back to 'Single door' setting
  • and see if that's a complete waste of time or not.

ETA: BTW what does DKRC mean?

Apologies @Murdockman, today I had the opportunity to change the setting on my wife's 2015 Fabia from what it's always been on of 'All doors' to 'Single' (driver's door and fuel flap) and as you rightly put one press of the unlock button on the remote unlocks the driver's door (and fuel flap) and two presses opens all doors.

Tonight I was able to test with the second remote that was left at home far away from when doing the setting and it too operates as one press 'Single' and two presses 'All doors'.

Have tried everything that has been suggested and it does look like the remote has some how decided to stay with one press all doors unlock, well i'm not going to buy a new remote just because of this, just a note the other remote WILL change between single and all unlock so it does point to the remote, thanks to nta16 for thier help it was worth a try I'll jst live with this it's the spare anyway

Thanks for reporting back.

Sorry nothing worked and thank you for educating me about the two presses.  I did wonder if your remote might be at fault and wondered about suggesting you change the car setting so both remotes open all doors at first press. this does mean all the door locks get equal exercise and perhaps(?) less(?) chance of a less-used lock(s) not operating in the future and not knowing about the fault until you can't open the door (depends how much you use rear doors and boot).

My wife tried the driver's door only setting with second press for all doors and didn't like so reset to all doors on first push.

A neighbour's Picanto boot lock mechanism broke and what a disproportionately awkward job that was to get into, test and repair with my small chubby hands, a cable-tie permanent repair was made once I'd worked out what should have been where.

I find not having a 'valet' setting so I my wife can open the boot without me having to remove the key from the ignition a bit of a pain but I expect there's a computer setting to get passed that, which I don't have access to.

Being old I find all remote locking an unnecessary pain, I always used the keyblade on my wife's previous car but if you do that with the Fabia the alarm goes off unless you're quick to get the ignition on. 😀
