Shock absorbers leaking

Featured Replies

Dear friends, I have a skoda karoq, 2019, 1.5 tsi, 110 kw, front drive.  I am the second owner and it has 85,000 kms on the clock, or 53,000 miles.  rear shock absorbers are working well, when I push the rear bumper down, the rear part of the car goes down 3 inches and slowly returns.  but when I do the same in the front, at the front end, it goes down easier, goes lower and comes back quickly, when I repeat it a couple of times, the front end of the car at the front hood actually swings, up - down.  I noticed that when I leave home, the road is worse, the right side of the wheels knock a little and after a minute it stops.  it also seems to me that the front right shock absorber has traces of liquid under the protective cuff.  but it might also be the humidity, I'm not 100% sure because it's winter.  I don't know what the factory shock absorbers are, a colleague who works in VAG service says that in recent years VAG has been installing cheaper products, that the shock absorbers are Monroe.  how does your karoq behave when you squeeze the front hood hard and rock the car, does it stop immediately with movement or is it soft and sways?  because, maybe it was made softer at the factory.  but the back end is hard.  and what should I take in case of replacement, Monroe or Kayaba Excel-G?  The original ones are 3 times more expensive and that's too expensive for me.  the car is out of warranty.  thank you very much

I’ve purchased me Karoq 4 months ago, with 122k km on the clock, it is on 137 now, and the front shockers have been replaced recently by the seller under warranty. They fitted Monroes.

a Karoq is by no means a weak sprung car, and is by no means a stiff sprung car, it is just allright. If you drive over a speed hump and you have to slow down to let say: 10-15 mph because otherwise you will be crashing over the hump, your shocks are gone.
A karoq should have a firm but comfortable ride.

It drives softly and i have only issue knocking first 5 minutes driving on my street, bad road, only right side, alfer that driving is confort, no issues with speed humps, i slow down to 20 km/h also because my lower back hurts.

And on right shock i see little leak.

Rear shocks looks and works great and are hard to compress.

Here is mine front right.

And should i change all 4? Not expensive, about 250€ all of them. With nuts only.

Only change what is broken.  Soft sprung on the front is not okay. It should be comfy firm.

are you kidding or? these oe on car are piece of ****. i thought on many cars fail earlier, two yrs, 2000kms.. is it normal for Sachs? arent those one f the best quality?

3 yrs ago i had oem TRW i think on renault megane and no leak, no bouncing for 12 yrs, if this oem is sachs they have short life, 5 years, 85000 kms, okay roads are bad.

I hope the bouncing and noises will go away, I can still replace the rubber stabilizer links, they are not expensive, otherwise none of the links have any play, front, rear, ball joints are stiff.. seems all righ

right one has leak and front part of car it bounces, I press the front hood and it makes 3 rebounds instead of one, knocking is heard, especially the right side up which strut has a small leak, the right stabiliser is loose, the left one is stiff, and don't like behavior of car which front part bounces, maybe they are at 70% capacity, they are not very cheap, there are Chinese ones for €30, these are €87 a piece.

i prepaired list od parts needed.

  1. SACHS 318 198 shocks probably there is left and right because these two are not simetrical, holder of Stabilizer link is on other side.

  2. SACHS 803 024 shock absorber cap+bearing set

  3. Dust cover kit, shock absorber SACHS 900 349

  4. Rod/Strut, stabilizer FEBI BILSTEIN 102810 (maybe not needed, but not expensive and are half dismounted in process)

I plan to replace the rear shock absorbers too next year

i see there is some rubber under spring https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/5q0412545d-coil-spring-shelf-skoda-24934.html i dont know is it for changing or not, my seller says look inspect and proceed, rare causes problems.

so it will be without it.

i will replace driveshaft bolt with this six square heads same dimensions, i dnt have propriate 3/4 socket do torque it to 200 Nm + 180°, old ones are 12 square, hardness 10.9. and new are softer, 8.8. but torwqe is same.

these parts costs me till now 300€. i will work myself.
