Hi, 

Returned on a 5.5 hour journey home from Bruges, stopping a few times on way. Got home, unloaded car, had a cuppa. Went back out to car, turned key, ran for 2 seconds and stopped. Start car manually came up on screen(it's a stop start model). Same thing again and again. Changed key, changed car battery. Same thing. Various fault codes, but only one that constantly came back was camshaft sensor. So into local garage, sensor changed, same problem! 

 

Any ideas please guys? Even my garage seem baffled,

170bhp diesel, 152k, had from near new. Aside from samshaft sensor, there was a open connection 30 message, or something very similar

I'm just wondering if the issue was with the cam sensor's wiring rather than with the sensor - is that code still there? Was that the one that said open circuit, or was that something else?

 

I always say silly stuff first - have you checked all fuses?

I've checked fuses, these were the codes I cleared down before it went into garage for new sensor. As far as I'm aware no codes after sensor replaced

Check the immobiliser system. If it's not working, the car will start and run briefly then cut out.

OK, so turns out it was where the aux belt had shredded, but stayed intact in part. Bits had got tangled up in cambelt and pulleys, which had knocked timing out a tiny bit, causing sensors to shut engine down. So new cambelt/water pump fitted, timing checked, all good. So as annoying as the sensors shutting the engine down were, they probably saved it from severe damage.
