Tasteful Alternative to Pikey Mod?

Featured Replies

The below piccie is taken from Milotec's website, and was wondering if people thought this might be a nice alterntvie to the pikey mod. As this goes on both sides of the car, I would have thought that this would provide cooling to the SMIC. Certainly looks nice. Any thoughts?

How much does it cost and is an FMIC cheaper or similar price to this plus a pint job plus fitting?

Hi there,

I do like the look of it but it will work out alot more expensive than the pikey mod due to the respray plus i'd be scared cutting my bumper!

is that a proper vent or just a stick on look a like ?

again, would be ALOT more expensive than a trip to B&Q

I looked at buying these a couple of years ago when i bought my sideskirts and wanted them for cosmetic purposes as they looked rather RS4ish don't know if they are actual vents though as i decided against them,if i recall they where about

I installed a pair of these to a friends Octy about a year ago. It was suprisingly easy to do, you get a stick on template so you can drill, file and cut exactly where you have to. I did however have a problem with getting the vents to sit flush with the bumper. You get some black adhesive stuff which is awesome, but we had to use clamps to hold it in place for a while. The finished product looked  was excellent

They are proper vents not just stick ons, and they do add a certain something to the look of the car, as well as being functional. Whether they are better than the pikey mod I have no idea. Maybe they could be used in conjunction with the pikey for ultimate cooling??

Price appears to be

IMHO...for the flow of air through the SMIC....these are in the wrong place...in fact these vents may take air away from the SMIC.

never thought of that Adrian, the voice of reason.

cheap and cheerful wins the day then.

Can i be the idiot here and ask what the pikey mod is? :o

Btw, like the pic up the top, though can't make a judgement until i know what the other option is....

Surely they would help as the air has somewhere to flow out after entering the front grille - so there would be more air passing over the SMIC and less heat buildup.

Or am I talking rubbish again? :)

The Milotec vents are pretty much inline with the SMIC but to the side....with air flowing in it'll want to flow the easiest route....which would be the vents to the side of the SMIC.....sure air will still go through the SMIC but perhaps not as much as previously.

With the pikey mod the vent is directly behind the SMIC....so the natural flow of the air is to go through the SMIC and out of the vent directly behind it.

IMHO. :)

.......but there's a duct on the standard SMIC from the lower grille to the SMIC face so the air has nowhere to go but through the IC.

However I agree that these won't do much, as the air leaving the rear of the IC will be hot then a vent behind and above would work well or as I've seen on a Golf a vent in the wing above the IC.
