Suggested Tyres?

Featured Replies

Hey all, have a Skoda mate looking for some advise on tyres, the message he sent me reads:

"Wondering if when your next on briskoda you could enquire as to what tyres people recommend. Presently on goodyear nct 205/55/16 and getting 10-12000 miles on front pair? am not fast driver but do approx 2000 miles a month, so looking for durable but not crap. would appreciate any advice, cheers"

I'm sure that there is probably the information i need on the forum already somewhere, but presently in the process of moving house and a lack of internet connection limits my time online.

Any advise from anyone so i can forward it on will be most appreciated!

Thanks All

Luke

What car's that on?

I had that size on both my octys and got 40k from Michelin Pilot on the front.

The back ones were replaced with some yokohama at 60k for a lot less but they seemed pretty good.

Sorry, on a Octy Elegance, dont know year but it would be a Mk1

Thanks again

Had 28k out of the OE fit 205/55 R16 Dunlop SP2000's on the front of my Octi, and even then they still had just over 2mm of tread when I changed them.

Currently got Bridgestone RE-720's fitted and look virtually like new after 3.5k

If your mate is only getting 10-12k out of a set of front tyres, either the car has suspension/steering geometry problems or he drives a lot harder/faster than he claims.

I have a TDI Octy Mk I on that size, get about 30k out of Michelin Pilot MXM, however there grip levels are relatively poor. Have now moved the the Pilot Exalto 2, which grips like anything. A good compromise would probably be the Pilot Primacy which are supposed to give long life and good grip.

Should long life be more important thatn grip then the Michelin Energy range last ages, however the lower rolling resistance and slippery surface (for a tyre) means less grip.

Octavia 4x4 Nov 2001

Best for comfort, smoothness and "long life" has been the Michelin Pilot Primacy which, when new, give acceptable grip .in the snow. Not the best in wet and cold, good in the dry above 8 degs C.

Also tried the Michelin Pilot Alpin as a four season tyre until tread depth dropped to 3mm when front end grip in the wet became a lottery. When new and travelling in a strong cross winds above 55 mph, the bonnet appeared to oscillate slowly on either side of the chosen direction until tread depth reached approx 6.5 mm when cross wind performance became acceptable

For good grip in the wet OEM Dunlop Sport 2000 from new followed by Continental Sport were impressive. Both tyre sets lasted 14000 miles (no motorways)

Conti Sports are noisy IMHO.

Thanks all, anymore suggestions?

Bridgestone Turanza ER-30. Have them on my vRS with the same size u mentioned. No noise and good grip. Like them more than Dunlop Sport 2000(Noisy at speeds greater than 80km/h). I've done 14K kms on them. Still have good grip.

Have the octy tdi and am looking at fitting the BF Goodrich g FORCE PROFILER , they seem to have a very good test result for grip wet and dry also long life on the Tyre Test .com website , very good price and made by Mitchelin .Have a look on the my tyres website .
