Towbar wiring grommet - fumes in car

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a dealer fitted Skoda retractable towbar on my 2021 Superb Combi.  I've been getting complaints of car sickness from rear seat passengers and often think that I can get a slight whiff of fumes from time to time.

The wiring for my towbar enters the car from the outside through a fitted oval grommet which looks reasonably watertight but then (I think) goes through another circular grommet accessible from inside the boot at the rear of the wheelwell (left hand side as you face the back of the car).  On my car, this grommet has had its centre removed to allow the wiring though but there's a gap around the wiring now and I'm curious as to whether this is the source of the fumes.

If you have a Skoda towbar, would you mind having a quick look inside your wheelwell towards the back of the car to see if you have a sealed entry point for the wiring or if it's open, like mine.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

Mine is the same as yours but unlikely any fumes are coming in from there. Especially through the boot carpet and mat I have. I used to get the very occasional odd whiff of fumes but I think it’s the auxiliary electric heater for the coolant that activates in winter to help heat it up quicker. You can turn it off in the menu

That's a  pity - I thought that I was on to something there.  Thanks for checking and for the suggestion.  I'll have a look for that menu option.

I might be way off but i only notice it in winter!
