How popular is the Scala, actually

Featured Replies

I switched to a brand new Scala in April 2023, having previously owned 6 new Octavias since 2009.

I like the Scala and have no real complaints other than the a/c power controls would be easier if they were buttons on the front panel rather than on page 2 of the screen. (The IT Dept obviously won that battle…)

But I digress… precisely how popular is the Scala? I’ve only seen one other on the road since I put my order in in January 2023.

I asked the salesperson in the dealers how many others she had sold when she handed me my keys, and she had a quick think and said that they are using one as a courtesy car… hmm…

What do you think? Are they more popular than I suspect, and what’s the reason for their current sales figures? Might the Scala  be withdrawn sooner rather than later, or is the model a slow burner? (Not literally, obviously…)

Hi allaction2,

It may be that now that I own one I tend to notice them more (like when I owned a VW Bora) but here in the Forest of Dean area I know of 3 others. This is more than the number of Rapids (1), so I'm hoping that it's a slow burner so that I can get parts for it when needed.

It was certainly difficult to get a 1.5TSI SE to test drive. Nothing in any of the adjoining counties.

Before I ordered my Scala I went to the local Skoda dealers to in the hope of having a look around one and maybe taking a test drive.

I went in the showroom and asked the salesman and was told they hadn't got one on site as they are a "rare beast"

I have only seen two since I ordered mine, a dark grey one I see a few times a week in Derby and a white one that was covered in advertising in Nottingham.

It is in the UK that Sales / First Registrations are low, but Skoda / VW UK will need to get more First Registered ramped up to help the Average Fleet Emissions in the UK.

Skoda only sold 39,500 Scala's worldwide in 2022 which was 17.9% less than in 2021.

I guess they really are a "rare beast"

Deja vu.

@fossman 'How many left show' it as around 10,000 registered in the UK as of last year. Not that poor for 3 years of sales.

It has been car salespeople not that much interested in pushing them, and maybe that was to do with Skoda UK not being,

But, when What Car / Autocar which is HayMarket Media get behind them you know there is a sales push coming.

They are a mouth piece for VW UK.  They even make some cars from Skoda like the Mk3 Fabia 'Car of the year' before they actually get launched and arrive in the UK and they have only driven left hand drive ones.

But then Haymarket Media Group as well as being publishers do Launches for VW Group & VW Group do use them for advertising.

(They are also not that quick in ever pulling up VW Group on cars with faults or failures & issues like Software, DSG,s or the likes.)

................

Part of Lord Michael Heseltine's Empire.  He who helped in the sale of Bentley to VW Group.

Funny to have testing facilities and business and to not have seen the defeat device issue before late 2015 when it had been getting flagged for years,

...........

Then Heycar own 'Honest John' & VW own Heycar and Daimler bought 20% of it.

Good when they praise or report on good cars and good value cars, and even better if they bring to the potential buyers and issues when there are any.

There might not be with the Scala, but there are among other models on sale now or away to be updated and not resolved for those already owning them.

I bought mine in 2021. It was about 9 months old with low mileage. Up till then I'd had bigger cars ( Jaguar, Audi A6) but I wanted to downsiz3 but not too far. I really love it. Good performance and comfortable for its size..only issues are with the software.
