FAO Fathers out there!

Featured Replies

Me and my wife are expecting a baby in 4 weeks so we went to halfords to buy a baby seat. We tried to get 4 to fit in the back of my octy but the bloke who was trying to fit it couldnt because the seatbelt wasnt long enough. We tried all the back seats and the front passenger with the same problem.

Halfords say they have never had this problem before.

Has anyone else whos got baby seats had this problem?

Does surprise me a bit that none of them fitted at all...the one I used did need the seat-belt to be nearly fully unreeled, but it did fit nonetheless...

cheers for the reply Rob. My seatbelts wouldn`t go anywere near. Need to be about another 6 inches long to fit any of them!

Ours fits ok, its a bit tight but fits in, it is from mothercare. One tip get a Neat Seat mat ( about £20 ) from Mothercare, the car seats that have carry handles and rocking bases also get rough underneath and will soon fray the silver mesh panels. To fit the seat is a little awkward, you need to get it quite upright to be able to get the seatbelt over the back then recline it a bit, it won't fit in the middle seat as the seatbelt seems to be shorter though.

Have you thought of getting an ISOFIX seat, clips into the mounting points on the back seat. Think mk1 Oct'y has them.

We've had a Britax 'First Class' in the back of our Octy, no problem.

Previous to that, we used a mamas+papas seat with a sub-base.

Try going to a large independent store, as these are not tied to any brand, they were very helpful with us.

You should try and get a seat to fit an Impreza, this was really hard work.:D

Hope this helps.

We went to Mothercare and auditioned a few seats we liked the look of. Staff were very helpful and if you're not buying a Mothercare seat, you can go away and order it online :D

skoda do seats that fit... as mentioned with isofix which is safer

Our car seat wouldn't fit when we bought our Octavia 3 years ago.

Went to Mothercare and tried quite a few before we found one that fitted. Same problem as you - rear belts seem too short.

We wanted a travel system (where the seat slots on top of the pushchair) but we couldn't get any to fit. We ended up buying Britax in the end.

Getting worried now!!!

Bought our pushchair/ cot/ infant carrier about 4 weeks ago, but still haven't tried it in either car (mk1 octy or 97 polo):o

Fingers crossed (7 weeks to go), i shall have to get out to the cars this evening when i get home and check that everything works.

Brittax Rock-a-tot will fit...we had a similar problem..we had originally ordered a Graco travel system...fitted fine to our Passat but we then changed car just before baby arrived and the seat belts weren't long enough....changed order to the Brittax.

Just checked our Maxi Cosi Infant Carrier yesterday evening.

Everything fits no problems. Loads of room, and the seat belt wasn't tight on either the polo or the Octy:thumbup:

I bought a Recaro Young Profi Plus seat with the ISOFIX base. It ia a bit of a squeeze behind the front seats and you can't have either seat in the front fully back on its runners either. The ISOFIX does away with the belt and I'm well impressed with the simplicity of the design. Also, the whole caboodle is well and truly solid when fixed on. However, they aren't cheap but I suppose you don't want to skimp on things like that really.
