Karoq 7 Speed DSG fault 4X4

Hi Guys,

The DSG is so faulty that it broke your keyboard too?

Hi Guys,

Cant find my OBD scanner so not sure of any codes at all.
Driving home the other day warning came up on the dash saying no reverse gear can be selected? The car still drove ok until I started to slow down for my turning. I was in 3/4 when the warning notification came on and as i started braking car changed down 4,3,2,and then quickly dropped into 1 higher than normal. It would not come out of First at all. It was only 200 yards to my home so I slowly drove there in First.
I came out later and started up and the engine management light had gone off and she was driving as normal for the next couple of days. Then it did the same thing again. I immediately pulled over and turned the ignition off opened and closed the door, waited a couple of seconds and started her again. Drove home with no problem. I would think it is obviously a electronic glitch however has anyone else had this problem, and was it an easy fix?

Thanks

Knodty

I've generally learned it's better to pay attention to the OH than the keyboard 😅

I've not got a DSG but a quick google tells me that it may be something to do with mechatronics.

Don't suppose the car is under warranty?

@Knodty

?

How many miles has your 2018 Karoq done and have you had it from new?

Which engine has it?

Has it had Main Dealer Servicing as per manufacturer Recommendations, Guidelines, specifications or even schedule?

The DQ381 service interval according to them is @ 80,000 miles, so if not serviced that is OK if under that.

(Was the Haldex serviced in 2021 @ 3 years?, not relevant to the DSG just to the Servicing it has had carried out.)

Unfortunately DQ381 issues are not unheard of.

Yes people report issues on forums, but surely Dealership Employees can not say they have never heard of issues.  Receptionists might, but not Master Techs.

Hi Knodty.

Step one: Get your fault codes read.

Step 2 if that is not done at a Skoda Main Dealer or Approved VW Group repairer is do not let anyone other than them touch the car / dsg.

Even though you might be told the car is out of manufacturers warranty you want it in for a diagnosis at a Main Dealers even if you have to pay for that.

Keep a record in writing & then you might need to get into discussions with Skoda UK over the failure if there is a failure of a 5 year old DSG that has no Servicing requirements until 80,000 miles.

There might be the need for an independent expert to be involved, but that all depends on what is faulty and how the Main Dealership or Skoda UK deal with things.

This was a DQ200 has no Service Requirements and is an example of how a owner might be dealt with at a Main Dealership.

Much as I avoid Skoda dealers as much as possible, this is certainly a good idea.

If DQ381,s are going to have the issues that DQ200,s did that ultimately required a Global Recall in 2012 which excluded Europe then Service Campaigns and Recalls and TPI,s and software updates then it is important that faults are reported to the VW Group via Dealerships and Customer Services and the Importers.

No point being told, 'never heard of that before', or 'they all do that', or you use the gearbox / autohold / e-brake wrong.

If there are fundamental design, manufacturing, material or fluid faults or issues this early in the production life of these DSG,s then that does not bode well.

FYI,

Sorry for the late reply been tied up with other things.
We have had the car for just over 3 years and it has done 49,900 miles.

BTW it is a diesel 2.0L

Just found out it is a faulty Mechatronic unit. Is this a common fault on the DSG Transmission? Skoda  have quoted me £1,400 to carry out the repairs. I’ve spoke to Skoda UK Customer service and they suggested I contact where I bought the Car from as there is no good will gesture from Skoda Norwich, understandably.
mom waiting for a call back from the Sales Manager where we bought it.  🤞🏻

'If a common fault'  it is a Design, Manufacturing / Material fault.

@KnodtyWas it a Dealership Technician or Master Tech that told you it was common?

It is them that should know.

Skoda UK's Customer Services contractor might well talk about the supplying dealer and good will gestures.

It is Skoda UK's actual Executive Officers that you need to get into the discussions because the number of DQ381,s with MCU failures is an issue, and issue for Skoda / VW Group.

The technician I spoke to said it was not a common fault however I believe they are told not to admit liability or say it is a common problem as it give me ammunition for claiming that it is a faulty part. I know Aus / NZ had a recall on VW’s  with faulty MCU however they claimed it was down to climate conditions, and would not do the same in Europe.

I’m still waiting to hear back from Skoda with a list of the fault codes Shown on the Diagnostic check.

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/315115-service-campaign-dq200-dsg-oil-changeecu-update-fabia-in-uk

That was / is 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG,s & in other world areas they gave them a 10 year / 100,000 miles.

Actually the world wide recall of more than 2.6 million in total in 2012/13 on DQ200,s 2009-2012 excluded Europe.  (They even lied then on how many involved.)

That was / is a Service Campaign '34F7' started in 2014 to change the Synthetic Oil to Mineral & a Software update.

(Supposedly Climate Conditions, and NZ got new MCU,s in the few hundred cars they had to do.)

Funny that it turned out that the sulphur build up & the internal corrosion could be just the same in Scotland.)

Then there was 2013-2015 and a software update needed, started in 2017, and restarted in Australia 2018, recalling some already done and those missed.

There is the issues as the 1.5TSI ACT's were introduced and not just their software had issues so did the DQ200's because of the manipulation to get WLTP / RDE results.

Right I’ve just got my codes through for the fault on my DSG,  and I’m also waiting to hear back from Skoda UK customer services. I’ll keep you posted.
