Skoda Fabia MKII 2008 reverse light not working

Featured Replies

Good afternoon, ive just been informed by a fellow motorist that my reverse light is not working, ive checked the bulb (ok) and looked for the fuse (no.6 according to an online manual) however the fuse box does not have a fuse in bay no.6 and it also seems to differ to the fuse box shown online. It was working previously, and help on this would be appreciated. I would hate to take it to a garage just to sort out a trivial problem such as this, thanks in advance. (2008 fabia combi)

The bulb may look ok but still be faulty, to be certain swap with the rear fog lamp bulb then you can test it easily.

Check fuse 12.
More often a broken wire just at the cable entry of the sensor connector though.

Read gearbox code off boot sticker for more precise help/pics.

Do you not have your paper printed copy of the 'Owner's Manual' that will give you this information and much more, if not you can get from VWSkoda a free pdf download copy of it from the following link. - https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models

Below is from the 2008/5 pdf copy from that link, as already put it's fuse 12. -

Did you use your VIN number to get the appropriate manual I just used 5/2008, but even then it seems fuse boxes and the illustrations for them vary in many sources including VWSkoda Owner's Manuals (or 'Operating Instructions as the one for my wife's car is titled.  In my experience you can't fully rely on any databases including manufacturers but you just hope theirs are generally better.

good morning , i just used 5/2008 also but the fuses all correspond to what is illustrated on the fuse box cover.

Owners manuals are usually pretty rubbish for fuse info. Far too many variations with engines and fitted options, and over time, for them to cope.

Circuit diagrams available on erWin for a small fee are much better once you learn to read them.

But as already said, much more likely a broken wire.

You wernt wrong about the manual, i used VIN , different manual fuse allocation is the same but rating is 10 amps . I swapped the bulbs , bulb is okay. So as you hinted at it is more than likely a broken wire.

So find your gearbox code as suggested ^ and I can show you a picture of where the reversing sensor is. 🙂

Looking at your other posts, it's a 1.2 engine so probably a gearbox looking like this from the front.

Lowest red paint blob is the reverse sensor.

Thats cool im going to pop the car into a small local garage (someone i know and use regularily) and have it looked at next week , i'll pass any info onto him, thankyou

Unplug the gearbox reverse switch plug on the gearbox, and bridge the 2 connectors in the cars wiring with something such as a paperclip. If this results in the reverse light coming on it will probably be the switch. It is also possible to use a multimeter and check for continuity across the switches 2 pins when reverse is selected but is more awkward to access.

good reply , thanks

In doing what Keith has wisely suggested, you'll also find broken wires near the connector, if there are any.
