SOS system switches off - Apple Carplay loses location

Featured Replies

Hi,

This is my first post here btw. Had my Kamiq since January and love the nice, little car.

However – I have a problem. When using Carplay for navigation, all of the sudden the phone loses every track of where we are. And the green SOS-light in the roof centre goes out. No error codes, no warning about the SOS system in the display. And the light just goes out; it does not turn red.

IMHO, this is linked to the OCU *), which apparently stops working or just switches off. Then the SOS-light goes off and the OCU stops sending location data onto the bus and then in turn the media system cannot send those to the phone via Apple Carplay.

I have spoken to the dealer, and they have had some customers come in with the same problem – phone does not know where it is – and the mechanic has had the same problem on this own car. However, they did not link it to the SOS, so they have never asked the costumers to check whether the green light went out or not. Then will now do in the future. They did not solve the problem in any of the cases btw.

I have had the problem two times with the last six weeks. Both times the problem went away by itself just by leaving the car alone in the parking lot for a while.

According to the dealer, there are no outstanding software updates or TSBs on my car.

One of my theories is that the e-call system loses LTE-connection with the back-end system at VW. Then it switches off the SOS system / OCU – and the green light – and for some reason it also switches off the propagation of location data.

Any ideas?

Currently, there is TSH bulletins for the kamiq for both MIB (carplay faults) and OCU. It all depends on sw version and installed hardware whether they are applicable to your car though

The car is from June 22 so one year old. I'm rather certain it hasn't had any updates since then, but the dealer says there aren't any. I don't know if my car -  with the "Bolero" media system - can receive OTA updates and I have never gotten a message that there is an update available.

Is it the 'high' media unit without buttons?

No. The mid one - large screen, two dial knobs.

In to dealer for software update.  Simple as that.

Good morning and Happy New Year 2024.

A couple of weeks ago the green light next to the SOS button went off and now nothing works: no SOS, no info and even not the microphone for phone-calls etc!

Is it a software problem or a complete module issue? Any suggestions please?

It could be either software or a hardware problem with the SOS OCU, no way to tell unless you look at the faults, however if the vehicle is in warranty I'd just take it in for them to do it at the dealer
