Rev’s jumping/seem limited in 7th

Featured Replies

Just got an Octavia 1.4 tsi dsg estate 2014, when in Normal mode and driving on a motorway the revs seem limited when it’s in 7th gear, it won’t go above 20000, the car jolts as if it’s limited or that it’s trying to change gear but can’t find one. It’s under heavy acceleration, medium at best. I did try it in sports mode and the issue seems to go away but maybe I need to test it more.
The cars under warranty so hoping to get some guidance before I take it in next week.

thanks

I hope you mean 2,000 not 20,000?

I do haha

Welcome.

The only guidance i can give is get them to find what the fault is.

Not important but what speed is it at in 7th @ 2,000 rpm.?

If it had been in all gears that could be in Limp Mode, but not in your case.

In 2017 there was a Service Campaign started on DQ200 DSG,s for some from 2013-2015.

Yours might have been done. Service Campaign '34H5'.   That needs checked & the dealership should know what that was for as a preventative measure.

?

How many miles has your car done?

When is there a history of the spark plugs being replaced?

What other servicing is there a record of, and have you had a look in at the Air Filter to see if clean and fresh.   Just trying to get a picture of how the car has been maintained.

Appreciate the reply!
It’s started doing it in gears 4/5/6, I was doing 40mph when it was in fourth, again it hits 2000 and the car jerks and looses power for a split second and will continue to do that unless I ease off the accelerator. Also gets worse going up a steep hill.

it’s done 62000 miles

ill check the service history and come back on that

You need to get any fault codes read.,

+1 definitely need to know the fault codes.

Have you had a chip tune? Some tuners (incorrectly) disble some of the fault code detection firmware in the ECU.

+2 for definite  (Particularly if a DQ200 isn't behaving as expected!).  Although having said that, perhaps don't get too embroiled and simply let the warranty do its thing.

Did it come from Birchwood?

it came from Eastbourne motoring centre and I brought it last Monday.

there’s nothing in the history about a chip tune.

I actually took it in as I got the error workshop leave in P message a few times (appeared for a second then disappeared). They took a look and said there’s no error codes plus couldn’t recreate the error (I’ve seen a thread on here about exactly this situation so I’ve said I want it sorted whether they can see the error or not).

then the issue in this thread started! so I’ve told them, but my confidence in the car is now zero.

appreciate there’s a warranty, but I’m now inclined to simply ask for my money back and look for another one.

really appreciate people’s responses

I’ve just looked back at the work performed on the gearbox, the dealer mentioned this and said the clutch had been replaced.

looks like it had this same issue as it’s noted on the receipt.

they traced it to a faulty clutch pack in the gear box, replaced it and the linear selector shaft bearing, reprogrammed adaptions.

this was done at the end of last month.

im guessing this wasn’t the issue as the misfire is still happening.

My previous car (Merc C200 tdi ) did this, albeit intermittently, but never when in the garage for servicing. No fault codes were ever stored and no warnings on the dash.

Had it for 5 years from new and Mercedes could never diagnose or find a fix because it wouldn't happen when they had it.

That's where I'd be, and what I'd be doing

EMC should be alright about it.
