Battery replacement

Featured Replies

Hello! Does anyone have a guide on how to replace the battery in the mk3? I have found a couple video tutorials on the mk2, but not the mk3. Not sure if there is any difference.

Hello, I'm sure there is no difference for SS - important to make sure the battery adaptation is done correctly (change battery serial number and update any change of battery capacity/ battery type)

Deleted as I'd duplicated what's in ords' link.

I dont have a VCDS. The old battery is an EFB (see attachment). The new one I bought is a 70Ah AGM. Can I just swap them, or do I have to code anything? I have no knowledge about that kinda stuff.

Also I was looking for a guide on how to physically replace it. Know of any tutorials or videos that shows it? I have done it previously on a mk2, but not sure if its identical on the mk3 with regards to how the battery is fastened. There was a hard to reach plate and a bolt locking on the mk2.

That EFB to AGM change will definitely need adaptation (coding) - also true if the Ah rating is different from the old battery.

Changing the battery serial number serves to reset any settings that the charging system may have made in compensation for faults in the old battery.

There is a register somewhere on this site for members who have the necessary equipment and may be able to assist.

The clamping bolts are at the base of the battery and will require a long extension.

changed it now. It was slightly different from the mk2, the clamping plate and the bolt at the base of the battery were placed at the short side of the battery by the positive pole, as opposed to on the side like it was on the mk2. It was actually a bit easier to reach now, so thats an improvement.

Had a few warning lamps pop up straight away which dissappeared when I took it for a little spin. I'll see if I can drop by the local autoshop and have them code it for me this week.

Is that register you speak of international or UK only?
