Is this roof bar fit close enough or nowhere near.

Featured Replies

Guy at work got some free roof bars and offered them to me as he doesn't need them.

Is there a specific profile for the estate bars, or is this close enough?

Cheers

Looking that those pictures I have two things to say

1. Are you stone mad?

2. I hope you have good insurance if the answer to Q1 is yes.

Hahaha!

I'm not that mad, honest!

I've just never fit them before so wasn't entirely certain 😅

You need to make sure that they have a snug fit, those pictured don't. I know on my FiL's Yeti, there's locating holes for pins for additional security.

Maybe a bit of gaffa tape would help 🤪

No!

Terrible idea, when you’re going down the motorway with a roof box or such and the wind pushes it off the car and into the car behind, well, I hope your insurance is good 😂

I was thinking pack it up with a bit of pipe insulation 🤔

I was joking about the gaffa tape!

Seriously though, look at you pics and examine how much grip the bar ends actually have on your rails. Ask yourself, would you be happy travelling behind something like that?

Tywraps then, or for double security tywraps and gaffer tape.

Just dont carry anything with the rails 👍

I'd suggest checking for a brand and seeing if they offer a foot pack for your car :)

Just put them on for the aesthetic 😎

This is a great idea.

I have a similar issue with our kodiaq. Purchased roof rails from Mick's Garage using their search function to identify the correct ones. Tried to put them on earlier but the room rail has an unusual profile whereby there there is a corner edge trimmed off (not sure how else to describe it). Anyway, the car has raised roof rails but it would appear to me that the roof bars ought to those for flush/solid rails. Incredibly frustrating.

@cliff_moher your second photo looks right and your first photo looks like the catch hadn't been screwed in right?

That looks to me like you have bought a universal set of bars that'll allegedly fit anything with raised rails.
