Left or Right?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just had my Citigo's air conditioning re gassed and it is now working fine.

The selector lever for recirculation or outside air is set to the right, is this the correct position for aircon using fresh air from outside the car? Sorry if this has been answered before. 🤔

No.

So.... The lever should be set to the left to let in outside air? 🤔

Yes. The air in the cabin is usually warmer and moister than fresh air.

Demisting in the winter is also better done with A/C on + fresh air, but it's surprising how many people get that wrong, having never done a proper A-B test!

Many Thanks for the clarification. 👍😁

i was told that if it was very hot in the car (left out in the sun )

you use the recirculate, so the air gets cold fast , when the temp is about right ,you then flip it back to fresh air .

And did you analyse the instruction and ask yourself if it was plausible?

If my car is very hot, left out in the sun, like getting in an oven compared to the already hot outside I leave it on external air meaning the AC can drop the inside temperature quicker by expelling the hot air and cooling cooler air.

Once driving when the inside has cooled somewhat if I then switch to recirc the AC will be able to get the inside of the car to a lower temperature than on the fresh air setting, pretty much the opposite of what you have been told.

I only moved South 2 years ago, its a lot hotter than I have experienced before, we can have months over 40°c so I have wised up, people wiser than me spend time looking for the shaded parking spaces 😁

I don't use recirculation on the AC system unless I am avoiding smoke or vehicle fumes.

In very hot weather, I leave the AC to draw in fresh air, but I also open the rear windows of my car when I set off to help increase airflow through the car and release some of the hot air that was trapped in my car when it was parked.

I close the windows after a short while when the temperature inside starts to fall.

Ask yourself - "how often is air in the cabin colder than outside air when you get in the car?"
