2015 Fabia - Digital Speed and Passenger Window

Recommended Posts

Good Evening,

I have recently purchased a Skoda Fabia S TDI 2015 (which I believe is a MK lll) and have a few little niggles I hope you wonderful people can help hopefully with.

1. Digital Speed - the display on the dash doesn’t show the speed digitally. Only the temp, fuel and time,Which is very surprising as it shows what doors are open and other more complicated features.

I have googled extensively and checked the manual, there is no instrument setting option on the central console nor is there any buttons on the right side stalk.. or any buttons that would allow menu changes.

i am unsure if the display is maxidot or LCD so I’ve provided a pic to assist!

If there is no quick fix, then I believe I will have to go down the OBD route (if I have my terminology correct).. if so does anyone have experience of getting this working? Where I can buy etc?

Alternatively, would a dealership or Skoda specialist sort me out for a fee?

2. The Passenger window doesn’t open or close when using the switch on the passenger side. However, the window open and closes as expected via the drivers side button. I believe it’s an issue with the passenger switch.

I have seen these on eBay for quite cheap but wondering how simple or complicated it is to replace? Would i have to take the whole cover off?

I have a few other minor gripes but these two are the most pressing

any help much appreciated and please let me know if I can provide any more info

Segment display type found on S trim?

So not maxidot / MFD type found on SE & SEL trim

Don't think this can be changed.

Thanks. AG Falco

The S is the base trim. The centre screen is basic as. With Carista et al you can activate Driver information system (DIS) on the display. This enables fuel range to empty on the display. You can again enable options to display speed etc which can be edited on the stereo for the screen. These options with this display actually do nothing. If it's just the switch that's knackered for the window. Taking off the door card and replacing the switch will be easy enough with basic tools. Get some plastic pry tools if you don't have any already.

If your car is silver. I'm also pretty sure your car is probably ex Ministry of Defence. Any signs it's had a life by the sea? Engine bay. Rusty hose clips mount tops? 😀

You can use the APP `GPS test' for the speed on your mobile, and there is an option for Heads up Display as well.

As suggested above, not possible on these segment displays found in the S trim. Perhaps look into retrofitting an MFD - If the speedo is something you really want. I'd imagine thatd mean new indicator stalks, possibly BCM too? (so not really worth it)

As for the window switch, AFAIK it should just be plug and play. Disconnect connector, remove old one, new one in and replug.

Some people have suggested the driving school mode. I found that on my 2017 Fabia Bolero headunit, this mode did not work or appear. Perhaps i've coded it incorrectly, but i thought I did. I've also never seen a Swing headunit have a driving school mode - but I could be wrong.

Can confirm using Carista enables it on a Swing headunit permanently.

Good to know, Perhaps I can get it up and running on my Bolero then?

Ill have a tinker around.

  • 2 weeks later...

The frustrating instrument cluster display on my car is mind bogingly complicated. It was showing the digital MPH until I reset the trip meter............then it was replaced with the average MPH, and now thats disappeared too. How do I change these menus, I can't find any method that works. I do have aa switch on the end of the indicator stalk, but that cooers to do nothing.

Thanks all

I think I have made my peace and I’m getting use to the old skool analogue speedo

i did buy a digital gps one for the dash but it’s rather distracting so might return

Regarding the window, I removed to the switch and cleaned it. The windows now opens but doesn’t close so ordered a new switch!
