Boot Electrics Problem

Featured Replies

I have a problem with the boot electrics.

If I return to the car and unlock with keyfob and then open only the boot and change footwear, whatever, for a couple of minutes, the car isn't recognising the boot is opening and it is locking the car again and arming the alarm.  We have confirmed the car isn't recognising the boot is open on the driver display.

Also the boot light isn't working.

We have replaced the whole boot latch that incorporates the switch and it hasn't solved the problem.

Does anyone know which fuse it is?  It isn't listed in the manual.

Or any other suggestions?

Thanks

It's a 2016 1.2 TSI SEL

Or any other suggestions?

Light bulb, earth point, broken wire (probably at the hinge)?

Do you use the centre button on your key to just open the boot or the bottom button to open everything?

Would the fuse cover all the central locking not just the boot?

Thanks both.

We've ruled out the boot light, it works when removed and tried via a power pack.

We don't think it's the earth as it appears to be common with other components that are working.

Can't rule out wire, but not straightforward to test.

@AG Falco

I unlock the whole car with a single press of the bottom button, and then open boot by hand.

Central locking is working - including unlocking the boot, there is still power to that part of the latch.

Interior lights are still working.

Side lights, top rear brake light, everything else is still working.

It's just the boot light and the electrics telling the car the boot is open.

Does it make any difference if you try it the other way?

With mine I can change what opens when you push the key fob button via the infotainment system.

Have you tried changing that?

Or even a reset?

Thanks.

I've tried just opening the boot with the middle button, but this means the rest of the car stays locked anyway, so the situation doesn't arise for it to lock itself again.

I've tried altering what opens with the central locking on the infotainment settings, this didn't make a difference either.

What do you mean by reset? Do you mean restore factory default settings in infotainment settings?

Yes. Or have you done that already as well. 😒

Yes!

Anyway, after much dismantling, my partner has sorted it.  There was a complete break in the cable from pin 22 of the body control module to the boot latch, it had broken behind the boot wiring grommit, really strange the break was really clean like it had been cut.

For anyone with a similar issue, it's the blue & brown cable, and it should have power at pin 1 of the 4 pin plug into the boot latch. My partner dismantled the nearside boot trim to first check for power at the 10 pin multiplug behind there.   (Both cables into the boot light have power, there is a diode on the light).
