Help: Retrofit power folding wing mirrors

Recommended Posts

Good evening,

Looking for some help with the retrofit of the power folding wing mirrors today on my Octavia Mk3.

Got the door cards off and replaced the mirrors, swapped over the modules.

And did Sashas coding instructions for folding on the key fob which also works fine.

Put everything back together and the problem I have is they have an opposite action. Unlock the car and the passenger unfolds whilst the drivers folds.

I believe the incorrect action to be the drivers side as  the rear window drivers side also does not work.

Might I be right in assuming the control module is at fault?

This topic suggests it might be the software version?

https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/8221/

But no idea about ODIS.

Any help much appreciated.

Still needing some help with this please.

Changed the control module today to one ending in 593B.

Rear window now works on the drivers side but the mirror still folds the opposite of the other side.

When the car is locked it is open and then unlocking the car it closes.

Don't know what else I can try to get this done.

Ok great. Rang Skoda and they want £144 just to look at it.

How do I know what data set is required for the module.

Are there forum members that can sort it for me or is it a dealer only thing.

Driving to Wales next week and the missus wants it sorted before then 🫣

That depends on the forum member :)

If they have genuine VCP then I'd hope it would include the correct parameter files for an Octavia.

If they have ODIS with an online connection, they might be knowledgeable enough to find the correct datasets direct from VAG.

If they have ODIS without an online connection, you're reliant on them having found the correct datasets via other methods.

If you have a VAS5054a or similar, it might be possible for someone to perform the parameterisation for you remotely.

There are a few datasets on MIB solution but it's not clear if any are for an Octavia although they match the part number and SW installed on my folding door mirrors.

It might be worth contacting https://www.vagcarcoding.com/ or https://www.vagcodingspecialist.co.uk/ both are London based so might be close enough to you.

If it helps, my '18 plate has the following modules:

You are the man!

I'm hoping Gizmo is my man to get me out this mess so genuine will not be an issue. He sorted me out once before with some mini adaptations but this is way out my comfort zone.

Appreciate the input @langers2k

This will require a dataset/parameterization.

Using odis and simply running the new module routine with a geko secure access account will allow the system to download and apply the correct dataset to the module.

There will be no hunting for any files and it’s just a case of the vw servers will have the file you require and upload it straight to the module.

there are other offline methods with odis offline or vcp but you need to find the correct xml dataset files yourself for this to be possible.

  • 2 weeks later...

:wall:

Bought another 2 facelift Octavia modules thinking that was the easiest solution. Both are from the same car so that rules out any issues there.

Ending in K I thought that would be fine.

These two pins are the wrong way around and so don't allow the plug to fit.

Meh. Back to the drawing board.

The last letter is not a minor difference, it can be a completely different shape, size, function of part.

If you want help finding suitable modules for your car drop me a message with your reg and vin.

I've sent you a pm.

Current modules I have in the car are here in the screenshots.

Long coding looks different which I need to probably take a closer look at.

My final input on this retrofit of power folding mirrors - more for reference for others if they need it.

Door card off again, popped a voltmeter on the plug to check the power to the folding in and folding out wire from the module. I had a fair idea from this thread that it was pink and grey -

Popped the wiring block open using the little clip on the side. It just slides out and then you can depin the pink and grey to swap them over.

Put the block back together, checked it and voila. It works as it should.

My OCD is still tweaking that its the wrong module but I'm sure it'll fade along with my insanity on the mirror modules and hardware/software versions. Who knows why my retrofit turned out to be a nightmare.

Thanks to @langers2kand @ApertureS for your suggestions / help.
