And having had a couple of long night drives now on country roads in poor weather, the LED matrix headlights are fantastic, both in terms of the full beam brightness and the fact that they stay on full beam and just blank the zones where an oncoming or in-front car is. This is probably the greatest improvement over my 2016 car.

Well the car I ordered hasn't got the 360 system, nor is it 4x4 so theoretically shouldn't be a long delay! I'm joking of course but not going to bother chasing the dealer as I really don't think they

I haven't tried this yet.

Do you have to activate the full beam manually?

I'm still trying to get used to waiting for the engine to start before moving the shifter out of park.

Twice a day I abort the staying by shifting too early as I would on my manual.

lights: yes, when the lights come on automatically it is dipped beam only. The first push on the stalk enables automatic high beam. But it will only go to high beam out of street lighting area and when going fast enough. The symbology is the high beam icon but it’s in grey when high beam is not actually on, blue when it is on. Once it is on out of town etc it stays on high beam but creates dark areas where it seems vehicles coming other way or in front. Goes back to low beam at junctions etc, then back to high beam automatically.

Second push on the stalk is permanent high beam but I’m not sure why you would want to do that.

The only time I have manually dipped so far, was for a pedestrian on a country road - I didn’t want to dazzle them.

I guess the starting thing is because yours is diesel and doesn’t start immediately from cold. My petrol does start immediately so this is not an issue for me.

Thanks, just tried this on the way home and it's great.

I was wondering how to activate it.

On the Mercedes "auto" lights meant also auto matrix full beam on higher speed roads & highways, you didn't need to enable something extra bit this is perhaps more controllable.

The engine starts pretty fast without any real delay, but I'm used to my manual Octavia where I could press the button, press the clutch a second or so later whilst selecting reverse directly & it would still auto start.

I need to get out of the habit to press the button and then shift quickly to D.

It will come.

The fancy high beam gizmo is great - dread to think how much it’ll cost to fix if it goes wrong out of warranty.

On our last Volvo the missus smash the front light module on a metal box attached to a wall.

Fairly innocuous & just some broken plastic we thought at first...

Dashboard was lit up like a Christmas tree with communication errors for various modules (door module,  infotainment, indicators didn't work).

2800chf later (paid by her company insurance) & a 2 week wait for the part, it was fixed...

2500 was the piece price and around 300 for the Labour to fit it and program/learn the new light.

(Eek)

Forgive me for posting this review of the Octavia here but I found it interesting as it's given me my first proper idea of the colour of my new Superb, which is currently somewhere between an unnamed foreign port and my dealer in the north west of England. There appear to be very few Royal Green skodas out there so choosing that colour was a bit of a gamble but I have to say I rather like it (thank goodness!)

Its good to have something a bit different.

Far too many white, black and grey cars around...

And it'll make it easier to find in the supermarket carpark..

I was in my local dealer showroom last week and they'd got a L&K Superb Estate in this colour with a beige interior - it looked wonderful - having had a Karoq with the beige trim I regret not having it again in my Superb - either way, you're a lucky guy, that colour is magic.

That's great to hear! That said, I went for the cognac leather seats with black headlining. Again, never seen it in the flesh so another gamble, I like the photos of that interior but I'm aware the cognac isn't to everyone's taste. Hoping it'll arrive in time for collection very early January.

Think the Royal Green with the cognac interior in a 280 combi would be VERY tempting for me, if only I could find one...!
