Pedestrian Protection System - On mk3 Octavia

Featured Replies

Just discovered my car has this feature and it says if activated you can't drive the car afterwards. My question is does anyone know if this system would be activated if I drive over a cattle grid? As I am having to do tomorrow twice. The Skoda Manual says in the 'Operating principle' paragraph that the System may be activated if 'Driving over pronounced corrugations perpendicular to the direction of travel' Which is exactly what the cattle grid is I have to cross - perpendicular rolling metal rods. I cannot avoid them where I am going... They really shake the car even when going very slow as there's about 15 of them - not a fixed cattle grid.

I have never heard of Pedestrian Protection System in relation to a MK3  - are you sure you have the right manual?

In the latest from 07/2019, the only mention of pedestrian's is for the 'Pedestrian recognition' feature. It doesn't disable the car, it only "warns of an imminent collision, prepares the vehicle for an emergency braking, supports during braking or performs an automatic braking".

Any chance of a link or screenshot?

Oh, now I've managed to find it a 03/2013 manual.

It looks to be a feature of early MK3 Octavia's where the bonnet will pop up slightly to try and prevent injury. Given it only operates at 30-55 kph, I'd suggest driving over cattle grids slowly :D

Al mention was removed in the 05/2013 manual so assuming your profile is correct and you have a 2019 car, this system is no longer fitted

Section from a 03/2013 manual for those who are curious:

edit:

If you do want to check, you can see the differences pretty clearly if you open the bonnet.

Ah thankyou for looking - Yes I always drive over cattle grids slow, but they do shake the car badly which was my concern. But good to know my car has not got it then, as it seemed a bit unnecessary like the lane assist function 👍 It is in the 2013 to 2020 manual I downloaded which is why I assumed I had it.

Each year has a different manual as the features change so often.

Depending on the build date of your car, the best for you are likely to be:

- 11/2018 onwards: https://ownersmanuals.blob.core.windows.net/ownersmanuals/en/Octavia_5E/11-2018/OwnersManual.pdf

- 07/2019 onwards: https://ownersmanuals.blob.core.windows.net/ownersmanuals/en/Octavia_5E/07-2019/OwnersManual.pdf

The links look a bit weird but both came from direct from Skoda via this page: https://manual.skoda-auto.com/210/en-GB/models

Ah I see, I couldn't see which Manual was the closest fit to mine, so went for the 2013 to 2020 one. I've downloaded the first link you sent - many thanks! At first I thought it was for another car, but then realised the manual covers all the different options and add ons. I think mine is the 'standard' car version. I also noticed the 2017 model onwards has a redesigned pedestrian protection system, so my car may have that - I will go super slow over the cattle grid tomorrow and hope the bonnet doesn't eject!

Each manual will cover all options for that model year. As you have a vRS, you'll have plenty of equipment that's not fitted to a base spec 'S' model car 👍

You don't need to worry about the bonnet ejecting as the active bonnet was only fitted in to the 2012/2013 models. Assuming you've shut it properly, there is no reason for it to open during any driving situation :D
