Black Crystal Karoq

Featured Replies

Changed my Octavia 4 Estate for a Karoq 1.5 edition in black last week. Polished yesterday and was surprised to see that it wasn’t Black Magic in colour but Black Crystal which pops blue metallic in the sun. That was a bonus it’s a lovely colour. I am impressed with the Karoq it’s fully loaded apart from wireless android auto which is a pain I suppose I will get used to that though!!

Wot, no pic?? 😁

And what is this sun you speak of?  🤔

There are wireless Android Auto dongles available, I myself use CarLinkit 4.0. They're around £45-50 on eBay. Works great, the only issue I face is when I change between Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the screen freezes, and requires a restart by unplugging it then back. Takes a few seconds only though.

There is an upgraded version, but I haven't tested that yet, it's CarLinkit 5.0.

If you get that, the car will show as if you connected through Apple Carplay even with Android Auto, that's normal behaviour.

The thing with Wireless Android Auto (for me at least) is that your phone is going to run out of juice on a longer journey if you are navigating and, say, playing music etc. so you are going to want to plug it into the USB to keep it topped up (unless you have a wireless charging mat/phone that has this feature too).  This is why I have not invested the £50 on the dongle personally.  -  unless I'm missing something???

You are correct. Having wireless connectivity will definitely deplete the battery. For this I have bought a MagSafe phone holder for my phone which can wirelessly charge it.

I had a think about this and bought a short cable to connect my phone and put it in the sliding storage area where the 12v socket is. I can’t see any advantage to the carlinkit apart from plugging the cable into the phone every time I use it. Thanks for the comments though!

For wired AA be aware that (on my car / phone combo at least) it can be very fussy about the quality of the cable. I tried several that kept disconnecting at random intervals until I found one that was rock solid. If you have disconnection issues it may not be the Android Auto app or the head unit playing up - not saying you have this issue but its worth noting anyway.

You are right! The first cable I tried wouldn’t connect so I bought a better quality one and everything is fine now.
