Octavia iV and Intelligent Octopus

Featured Replies

Simple question (hopefully), is anyone having success with getting enough charge from Intelligent Octopus?

I've been using it with for about a month and whilst it worked well for about a week or so, recently I have only been offered sufficient overnight charging slots to charge to requested level.  For example, last night I wanted a full charge (battery at 3%) and it only offered me two half hour slots.

Vehicle - Octavia iV Estate VRS

Charger - Pod Point Solo

I'm sure I have everything set up correctly - no plans active in MySkoda app - Pod Point set to manual - Octopus App controlling schedule

Just wondering if anyone else is having similar issues or if I'm missing something obvious.

Cheers in advance 🙂

I had the same issues and Octopus acknowledge Intelligent is beta only for Skodas. So I dropped it and went back to the Skoda pulling charge when I see the rates are low on Octopus Agile. For example this afternoon when the sun is forecast to be out and it’s windy I’ll be charging at a couple of pence per kWh! But usually the middle of the night rates in the week are about 13p.
Highly recommend Octopus Agile. Saturday 12th rates below, next days rates published about 4pm each day

I've been on Octopus Agile for about  month, on some days when there is excess renewable generation the cost per kWh at some times is even negative (i.e. Octopus pay you for using electricity!).

Thanks for your responses. Agile looks really interesting.  Just worried how expensive it might be in the middle of winter.

  • 2 months later...

I’ve just tried octopus intelligent out last night after picking up the car yesterday and I’ve had a similar experience. Went from 0 to 33% charge only last night

So it sounds like I should remove the car from the app and set up a charging plan in the car’s menu / app instead?

It's really unreliable.  I've just been through a patch where it worked flawlessly for about a week.  It then started reporting that it couldn't control the car (I hadn't changed any of the settings).  Guess it's difficult because the apps have to talk to each other (octopus, podpoint and skoda).  I now turn it off if i know I'm going to need a full charge.

Is there a lower tariff if it’s charging on demand or is it still 7.5p/kwh?

I'm with Shell Energy but apparently Octopus Energy have just bought Shell Energy's retail business so I'll be moved to Octopus later this year.

Charged last night via the Skoda app all fine. Only is issue was the clocks changed Sat night so it started charging an hour early!

2 am the clocks went back an hour to 1 am, so was that not the same with your Smart Meter or charger / car?

It's possible the clock on the smart meter doesn;t update until it contacts the mothership over the phone

The car still on BST as I forgot to change it yesterday. I’m not using anything other than the Skoda app and the cable to a 3 pin plug. So it must be the car’s fault? No big deal.

Have stopped using the octopus app for now. Will maybe try it again in a few weeks when I know I don’t need to do a full charge on it or something
