Smart Link Activation

Featured Replies

I have a 2015 VRS Estate. I believe it has Amundsen MIB2, model unit 5Q0035874A. Since buying the car I have wanted to have Smart Link enabled, as it has the option just needs enabling with activation key. I would very much like to use Android Auto.

I phoned up Marshall's Skoda Croydon, as they're my closest branch, after emailing them and being told they had an activation key in stock. I sat on the phone for almost 2 hours just trying to call through to parts department. Finally I got through, and the guy took my reg and said they had 3 keys in stock however was not sure if the ones they had would work with my car? He then transferred me onto their master tech in servicing who said that my year of car was a transition year so it may or may not work and he was not sure why parts had told me they had 3 in stock as they are apparently car specific and need one ordered.

I went back to the parts department, who then took my details and went to speak to the master tech himself, then about half an hour later called me back and said he's had to contact their technical parts department via email and needs to wait for a response from them to help. Once they have come back to him he shall call with an update. I started trying to phone them at 9:30am, by the time I was told they had to contact technical it was gone 11am. I honestly thought it would be a simple case of them saying yeah we have one in stock for your model or yeah we can order it for you, and book me in to have it all sorted.

Has anyone else had this issue? I am still waiting for a call back and was told they can only contact them via email and there is no time limit on when they would respond, but usually within a couple hours to a day or two.

Thanks.

They're right that 2015 was a transition year, early 2015 builds had a MIB1 which cannot have Smart Link, later builds (like your it appears) have a MIB2 which can have Smart Link enabled.

The key fact that Marshalls seems to have missed is that you have a MIB2, which means there is no doubt about being able to enable Smart Link and all they have to fdo is order the VIN specific key for your car.

The guy in parts I spoke to, had even confirmed with me the exact same model unit number for my head unit, and even said it was an Amundsen MIB2, and struggled saying it which was a amusing.  So with that fact I'm baffled as to why they need further technical assistance. They had my reg, my VIN number, head unit type and model, and still did not really know? I'd have thought even though I am lucky enough to have the MIB2 on my car, they'd be able to just order the key for my VIN no issues.

It appears not, so I'm just waiting now till they come back to me.

Quick search on the forum provides this "part number" that they should be able to find and then possibly understand what they might need to do with it and if you can get through to their parts department!

You have to bear in mind they won't see these sort of requests very often.

Thank you, I'm going to chase them up today and quote this part no.
