2012 Petrol VRS strange sound at 1050~ RPM

Featured Replies

Hey folks,

I am either deaf as a potato for the last 10 months and now I'm not, or never noticed before or I have a problem or I dont have a problem...

Theres a whiring sound that is to the speed of the engine but only at about 1050RPM.

I've tried this in 2nd and 3rd gear and get the same noise only at that RPM, I couldnt test at higher gears due to road noise.

It's like a wow wow wow wow wow wow noise, goes away when idling and goes away above 1050rpm. It's so quite that its only really heard when there's something by the passenger side for the sound to bounce back from if sat inside the car or if you stand at the passenger side and listen in through the wheel..

I stuck a box on the accelerator peddle to keep the RPM where I wanted so I could hear it from the outside, and its coming from behind, like, into the engine bay (or is at least louder) behind the passenger front wheel, probably due to the location of the engine and path for the sound to emit and cant be heard from the front of the car with the bonnet open.

Am I going mad and this sound has always been there and this is normal or is this likely an issue?

Sorry for the vagueness its the best I can describe it, other than when you rev the car and you get that engine noise as it settles down except in those circumstances it isnt wow wow wow wow wow

Appreciate any help, thank you! 🙂
