I drive the 1.4 Petrol 2017 Kodiaq version.

Last year, Skoda have emailed me that I need to replace the camshaft drive belt. As the car is 6 years old, I decided it would be a good idea to replace it.

Usually, you replace the water pump when replacing the belt because the labour costs are about the same so I went with this option as well. However, the representive has informed me that the cost is only relevant for the diesal version, and that for the pterol version - the pump is located at a different place so the price is an extra with about the same as the belt replacment and there's no reason to combine both works.

Is this true? does the water pump on the petrol version sits in a different place and require a different labor cost?

I wasl also informed that you only need to replace the water pump if it's leaking and that I don't need to do this today, so I would propbably opt to hold off with this service. Any suggestion for or against?

Do neither.  The engine has a lifetime belt with no scheduled replacement period (megE or time) 

As of July Skoda UK and their dealer network changed their stance on cambelt intervals. There is now no time limit and a mileage limit of something like 140,000 miles.

Applies to all cars/engines afaik.

Try doing a search for cambelt interval and you will see plenty of posts confirming this. Also applies to other VAG group vehicles.

 

No need to change water pump either unless its leaking.

I might be old school, but I am also not into wasting money!

 

Personally I would always change a  belt around 150k or so.   I wouldn't change a chain (which I believe the 2.0tsi has?).
