Navigon/PID/Maps and More Issue

I have had this apart to look at whether I could remove some deep  screen scratches. Eventually is seemed to be working again after a few false starts but I now have a problem in that the touch screen doesn't respond correctly. I have tried a hard reset but when i get to the language page I cant select anything. When I do another hard reset I get the moving cross hairs to recalibrate the touch screen but these seem to move no matter where i touch the screen . I have downloaded the North_Europe zip file from Skoda Updates but this does not install even though I have followed the instructions to the letter. Getting frustrated with it now - any ideas?

Update - Ok - so I followed the instructions too literally and copied the zip file across to the Micro SD rather than extracting and copying so I got a little further, but as my screen isn't calibrated I can't press the "yes" button to say begin device recovery?
