My car didn't come with any space saver wheel and I know now-a-days lot many cars come with it. but to be honest, it is very much important if anyone planning to drive abroad or long way from home. I learnt a very good lesson recently. But luckily, I had european breakdon cover. So, now I am thinking to grab hold of one Space saver.

my tyre specifications are 225/45/R17. So what would be my Space saver tyre size?  is there anyway I can grab hold of original space savers wheel + kit with the box and all the bits like special bolt for securing the spare wheel in place, securing strap etc with reasonable price.

Oddly enough - if you phone up your local Skoda dealer, they will probably have a good offer for a spare wheel kit (including all the tools, the strap and the foam insert needed to get wheel bolts on/off etc).  When I had to do this for a VRS I used to own, it made sense to go down this route.

You can order a spare wheel kit from any VAG parts department using OEM part number 5E0093860F.

The kit includes everything except for the actual space saver spare wheel, which would need to be ordered separately.

I suggest you first order just the spare wheel kit (without the actual space wheel). Then you can work out if you can fit a full size spare wheel. As you have a VRS facelift, you will need at least 17" rims to clear the front brake calipers. I doubt you would have enough room for a 225 tyre width, but maybe a 205/50R17 fitted to a 6.5Jx17 ET49 5/112 57.1 steel rim (from a VW Caddy 2020 onwards) would fit.

The below chart might be helpful when working out what size spare wheel will fit in the spare wheel well. Notice that the actual width of an inflated tyre is different to the "nominal" width of the tyre that is shown on the tyre's sidewall.

Actual width of inflated tyre

205/50R17 fitted to 6.5J rim 214mm

225/45R17 fitted to 7J rim 219mm

225/45R17 fitted to 7.5J rim 225mm

225/40R18 fitted to 7.5J rim 224mm

225/35R19 fitted to 7.5J rim 224mm

Thank you that's exactly what I needed!

Out of interest - Does anyone know what Skoda intended to be held in the existing foam insert? I can't find any photos online of what this would have looked like when new. It looks like a lot is missing from my boot insert.

Many thanks,

Here's my spare wheel and toolkit in my mk3 VRS

It contains:

- Screwdriver
-  Locking wheel nut
- Towing eye
- Clamps for removing the wheel trims
-  Jack
- Crank for the jack
- Wheel brace

Looking at the owners manual, i was missing three items, which I ordered off skoda parts:

8D0012244A wheel bolt cap remover
6H0867749 strap
3T0012245 tail light key

The strap fits great.  I'm not sure where the bolt cap remover and tail light key fitted, so i shoved them in the bottom.

(For emergencies I fitted a hiviz vest, foldable shovel, foil blankets in the foam insert.  In the space round the wheel is jumper cables, skoda tow rope, Aldi fault code reader)
