Spce Saver wheel + toolkit

Recommended Posts

My car didn't come with any space saver wheel and I know now-a-days lot many cars come with it. but to be honest, it is very much important if anyone planning to drive abroad or long way from home. I learnt a very good lesson recently. But luckily, I had european breakdon cover. So, now I am thinking to grab hold of one Space saver.

my tyre specifications are 225/45/R17. So what would be my Space saver tyre size?  is there anyway I can grab hold of original space savers wheel + kit with the box and all the bits like special bolt for securing the spare wheel in place, securing strap etc with reasonable price.

Agree completely, this was the first thing we bought for Mrs B’s Nissan.  I was fortunate to find a complete set fairly locally on eBay.

edit:  The spare in my 2018 Octavia seems to be full size, albeit steel.  Certainly not yer typical skinny version.  So, does it have to be a space saver?  You could remove a wheel and check it fits into the well.  If it does, buying a road wheel might be cheaper, and easier to find.  (and a better option).  Then buy the other bits separately.  HTH

When I was ordering the factory options I specified a full size spare (steel not alloy) never keen on the space saver options & would only have one as a last resort ! Would at the right price have the matching alloys like the SEL versions have fitted from new.....only had the spare out to check the pressure !😉

The same could be said about always having the air con turned on all the time ! As long as 55mpg & over is possible thats ok with me 😉👍

Aircon consumes extremely high fuel. I barely use it, even I don't use auto mode unless raining (to keep the windows and windscreen fogless). Well, I am looking for a Space saver wheel as well as original. whatever I can find handy and nearer. I found some original wheels but they are slightly different. Don't know if they will fit in my car or not.

It's possible you're going to get a few comments about the a/c using a lot of fuel. A lot of factors are involved.

I run it all the time in auto mode with the temp set around 20-22c, with the profile set on eco mode. Does the job for me. It's never been serviced or re-gassed.

Long term MPG 60+

This ^^^^

except I don’t do all that many long runs now, so my long term is only low 50s.

Having said that, I’d rather drive in air conditioned comfort, even if it does cost a few mpg.

Agree 100%. Long gone are the days of driving with the windows open with the accompanying wind noise and buffeting.

You're obviously several years out of date with the variable displacement compressors that are fitted to cars. The fuel usage can start from almost zero and never reaches the mpg levels of older electromagnetic clutch systems in the UK climate.

Apologies.  The unused steel spare that came with my (then) 3 year old SEL spec Octy 3 has 205/55/R16 tyre fitted, and with the polystyrene insert for the tools fitting perfectly, it looks OEM.  The road wheels are 45/R17, so I assume the rolling circumference is the same.  I have had to use it, with no problems.

HTH.

does anyone know what size of space saver wheel I should buy? Or it doesn't matter, any space saver like 16 or 18inch will fit in my car?

The foam and jack kit can be ordered from a VAG parts department. It includes everything except for the actual spare wheel. Just hand the OEM part number, ie. 5E0093860E (or 5E0093860F if it's a VRS), to the VAG parts department...and get them to check that it's correct for your car.

There's a different foam and jack kit for the VRS model. This has OEM part number 5E0093860F.

Octavia MK3 (not VRS) foam and jack kit 5E0093860E (1289CZK is about £45.06)

Octavia MK3 VRS foam and jack kit 5E0093860F (1449CZK is about £50.69)

There's not much weight difference between the 125/70R18 space saver and a 205/55R16 spare wheel. If there's room in the spare wheel well (and there probably is with the Octavia MK3), I would go with the 205/55R16.

Unless you're going to fit a big brake kit, the 16" full-size spare is probably the best option, IMO.

If you get one as listed hove, you’ll know the stud pattern will fit.  I’d go for full size every time.

Once I figured out what size I needed (Thanks to Carlston above) I managed to get a brand new one from Facebook marketplace by looking around for £60 including the full toolkit, mines an 18" spare and fits in the wheel well fine.

Wow..looks pretty neat. i am looking for exactly same one as yours. I found some in marketplace but they are near Birmingham..Did you try to fit them? Does it fit? What is your original car wheel size and tyre spec?

I have 235/45/19 tyres on original VRS Xtreme alloys (stock tyre size is 225/45/19) I figured an 18" was going to be as good as any space saver, but I *think* the lowest I can go for the front of the car is 17" anyway due to size of front caliper.

So Skoda being VAG pretty much any VAG space saver in the right size will be ok. If you follow the rules for the sizes above that Carlston posted you should find one from a VW or Seat also as they will use the same part numbers. Audi use a different hub diameter so wouldn't fit generally.

I considered getting a full size 18" spare, there would probably be space for this diameter wise but the width of the alloy I think would restrict the boot floor from closing properly, especially with the toolkit in.

It's just a footpump. I also now carry a basic tool kit for just in case situations.

Hi, I have recently bought a 2017 Octavia VRS TSI - Can the lovely people of this forum tell me what items are missing from this photo please? - I'd like to acquire the missing items. Or potentially swap out the insert for a spare and toolkit.

Thanks in anticipation!

You can order a spare wheel kit from any VAG parts department using OEM part number 5E0093860F.

The kit includes everything except for the actual space saver spare wheel, which would need to be ordered separately.

I suggest you first order just the spare wheel kit (without the actual space wheel). Then you can work out if you can fit a full size spare wheel. As you have a VRS facelift, you will need at least 17" rims to clear the front brake calipers. I doubt you would have enough room for a 225 tyre width, but maybe a 205/50R17 fitted to a 6.5Jx17 ET49 5/112 57.1 steel rim (from a VW Caddy 2020 onwards) would fit...but there might only be enough room for a space saver spare wheel.

The below chart might be helpful when working out what size spare wheel will fit in the spare wheel well. Notice that the actual width of an inflated tyre will usually be different to the "nominal" width of the tyre that is shown on the tyre's sidewall.

Actual width of inflated tyre

205/50R17 fitted to 6J rim 208mm

205/50R17 fitted to 6.5J rim 214mm

225/45R17 fitted to 7J rim 219mm

225/45R17 fitted to 7.5J rim 225mm

225/40R18 fitted to 7.5J rim 224mm

225/35R19 fitted to 7.5J rim 224mm
