Alternative antenna for Radio

Featured Replies

Is there a recommended replacement for the aerial base , or is it best to stick with the Genuine one. My radio reception is very poor and I have heard its normally the base/corrosion/earthing?

A new base may help (unlikely IMHO, but get a genuine part if you need to) but there are several possible reasons for poor radio reception:

- At least some, if not all radios have signal boosters in-line with the coax from the antenna - these can fail. The connectors can also get corroded and reduce signal or become dislodged.

- Water ingress can cause shorts or corrosion.

- The coax can get damaged.

Surprisingly, one user commented that a factory reset of the radio unit fixed their reception issue.

Where would the signal booster be at the aerial end or the radio end? Will try the factory reset and the other easy things first

I'm not sure what the Citigo uses, but generally a powered booster ought to be as close to the antenna as possible, but some other cars have the booster in the tailgate or in the dash, while some have it in the antenna base... If on a Citigo it is near the antenna,  you'd have to drop the headlining unfortunately...
There's not much on the 'net about Up!/Citigo boosters at all - there are quite a few reports of poor radio reception however, and very few fixes reported, but I'd probably try the new (genuine) antenna base first to see if it works in your case (seems to for some people but not all) - https://www.upownersclub.co.uk/threads/poor-radio-reception.7843/
