Is my Idle sound normal?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just wanted to check as i've had some conflicting advice.

- oil/filter change 27/03/2023

- cold engine, ambient temp probably 16/17 degrees C

- 2018 petrol VRS

let me know if there are any other details you need.

Thanks in advance!

@Kyoki It might be a little tappety; does it get quieter as it warms up?

Yep sure does!

Once it’s warm it ticks over just fine. I think by the end of the video the sound has quietened down a bit too.

Possibly need to go with a thicker Oil?

OK, what spec (VW 500 series number) and viscosity are you running? What kilometerage since the last change?

I'm not sure, was serviced by the dealership so whatever they're meant to use. About 4000 kms since the change

What they used should be stated on the invoice. It should last more than 4_000 km before it starts thickening up too.

What's the oil level like in the car?

Also this is probably worth a watch.
